OMF WTF! is the devil incharge of activision/IW? Well to Activision/IW i give the middle finger! the gaming community will make cod4 our own, host our own servers and at least we can still LAN it!

I'm not assuming anything. I said that the only way to get dedicated servers was IF enough people didn't buy the game as a result.
Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but the community is evidently very, very upset. Don't think I've seen an outcry this big before, aside from removal of SC2 LAN.
But I'm pretty sure if it was a complete flop, they'd issue a patch to allow dedicated servers. Better to cut losses on the IW.net infrastructure, than the entire game.
Still, the sad truth is the game will probably still sell decently, but definitely not as well as it would have with the dedi servers put in.
Heh, the idealist in me says calm, reasonable negotiation should work just as well. :P
Until a month or two after release, when everyone who refused to buy it hears the matchmaking isn't so bad after all, and quietly buys it too, hehe.Quote:

Still, eh. I think it's in IW's best interests now to find some sort of compromise, and I'm quite sure they know that. The reality is, it's just not going to flop so badly that IW will reconsider on those grounds. If nothing else, it's still going to sell millions on console. PC gamers who have a problem with this really have only one option - convincing IW to reinstate dedicated servers with good reasons.
Azimuth, I suprised at you.... You know this mean no ****** MW2 at LANS?
Nobody knows that for sure at all.
Listen servers (player hosted) are an ancient way of connecting players together that was brought back for consoles because dedicated servers weren't practical for that platform. They otherwise only serve as a backup means of connection.
Dedicated servers were brought in as an improvement on listen servers with Quake 1 because of all the major latency, insufficient upstream, reliability and host advantage problems (problems on every single console multiplayer game). They nowadays also allow the game's community to live on many years after the game's release (Quakeworld for instance) and players to create custom content.
If ID Software had the foresight more than 10 years ago to realize dedicated servers were THE way to go, how the hell does one of today's most prominent FPS developers make such a backwards mistake, forcing us back into the dark ages of gaming.
If it was practical and console games offered the optional choice of dedicated servers in their games, I bet my family jewels that within a year it would become the most popular means of multiplayer on that platform.
This is why PC gamers worldwide are going berzerk. They are taking away one of the most important triumphs in PC gaming.
Quake on 56k was tons of fun. You could play with up to 32 players in Quake 1 and Quakeworld on a 56k (map supporting). Of course, that's because of its major technological advancement over Listen Servers, Dedicated Servers.
That's why I'm taking the wait and see approach, but to be honest unless some local ISPs manage to somehow host a server type game, no-one, or at least very few people, in SA will playing (the PC version) of COD: MW2.
If our internet wasn't as bad as it is the damage would've been less. I for one don't care about too much about mods. As long as there's a place where I can play I'm happy.
Good reasons have been given aplenty, here are some good ones right off the bat by the editor of PC Gaming UK.
The only thing they need to do is allow dedicated servers and allow mods on these servers. Steam? I love Steam. No more PunkBuster? Wooza! I say. Linking players with server that have other players at their skill level? Brilliant!!! AS LONG AS THEY CHOOSE TO LET THAT HAPPEN!!!
Like I said, I'll take the wait and see approach. If it takes them long enough the price will come down too. :)
