Who decides the value of a post?

As one such new member I can tell you it's pretty difficult to make posts here when you don't know anyone or how things work. Your replies tend to be short little opinions that senior members mostly ignore so you can't really add to the conversation... you just have to keep dropping these little bombs until someone responds to you. Notice that the OP did change the thread, however some of the responses were incredibly dickish and I don't think it does any favours for the forum (chatting about gaming should be enjoyable).

My Suggestions/Point:

• Senior members definitely have an advantage when it comes to making more posts here so competitions are reasonably fair
• Don't be an ass to new members, just pm them or say something reasonable in your post
• If someone's a blatant troll then report them... if they don't respond to point two
• Members post quality will improve the more they post, if not they'll probably leave, if they don't leave then just accept that that's all they want to contribute (eg. a 'lol' or whatever), if you can't accept it then look at point three

Also activity on the forums. If you aren't active or are "new" then the quality of your posts will be somewhat lacking compared to "seasoned" active members. The competitions obviously attract new people and guys who are "inactive" so to speak.

I find the "too short to post" warning helpful as it helps with people just posting a "lol". Thumbs up for that.

This may or may not be relevant, but something that gets me, and I'm not pointing fingers at anyone in particular, is double or triple posting in a thread. I see it from time to time but turn a blind eye. But I can't say it doesn't annoy me anyway. That's clearly against the forum rules and no doubt bumps somebody's post count and activity points up during comps, when it seems to happen most often. I'm not sure if this is because of the device that people are using to access MyG. Maybe the mobile version of the site doesn't offer the opportunity to edit posts or something. I don't know because I haven't used it. But if it does allow editing, or if you are doing it from a PC using the regular layout, then there's no excuse not to just edit a post.

To make a double post... Guess I will have to break out IE or Opera to get it right...

On the PC version it merges the posts but in tapatalk it doesn't. I prefer editing but sometimes it crashes the app on my phone so I can't always do it that way. Apologies for any offense, can't always get to a PC to edit a post.

So I think the problem with valueless posts seems to be that the moderators have busy personal lives, so don't always see them. Could we just start RBPing posts we think are spam? Because it seems with the new competition some of the usual culprits who you regularly hear complaints about are starting up again.

I'm not interested in this new competition myself, but I think it's very unfair that some users spam their way into the activity list while others have to make some effort to get themselves on that list.

The site is very elitist [sorry it is true] when it comes to the comps and new members, sort of like only an old boys club.

Like the image of the day thread, all of a sudden when someone posts multiple pics in different posts (which weren't related to the other pics) there was a lot of butt hurt aimed at me now mulitposts get merged, it makes it difficult for the newer members to get into that club.

In any case, I say the thumbs up, thumbs down approach is a good indicator of the quality of a member's posts - if he/she has a lot of upvotes it means that the content they post would (generally) not be of a trolling nature - but that is limited too so again there is a biased factor - I for one can't upvote most of the content posted even if I feel it deserves an upvote. . .

This post is aimed more towards new members than to you, Piesank. You hardly qualify as new.
I have found MyGaming to be much more accessible for new members than its sister forum on the other side of the tracks (you know, the one about BroadBand). There is still some unwritten rules that should be adhered to, like in any forum, but a bit of lurking will give a new member a fairly good idea of what is acceptable behavior and what isn't. The new guys/gals will still make mistakes (hell, guys that were members here before the internet started still make mistakes), but then you should just take it on the chin, apologize and learn from your mistake. And before you know it, you'll be shouting at newbies with the grumpiest of old farts on here.
