Yeah I studied it through SAE

I found it extremely interesting.
I studied it because I'm a drummer and felt it would be beneficial to me. I don't work in any studios though as I purchased my own studio equipment and know exactly what I'm doing.
I loved the experience of working with other engineers and musicians and it really helped me learn a lot and better my playing.
Where are you planning on doing it? I have heard very good things about ASE in Johannesburg. They are apparently the only Protools accredited institution in the country. My brother-in-law studied there and he enjoyed it immensely. He's a muso and plays guitar and bass guitar. He does a few shows and is very capable of doing studio work as far as I can tell (from a layman's perspective). They also do show set-ups and rigging there.
It's unfortunate that it isn't a widely-accredited course, which means that there is a lot of variation in the quality of what you learn between schools. A very good friend of mine studied at one such place in Randburg a few years back. It was kak, and he didn't learn a lot. He basically went through some pro-tools tutorials.
I'd recommend that you do your homework on the school that you have chosen and make sure that they have a reputation for quality output, check out their curriculum ensuring that it does what you want it to do for you, and I'm sure you'll be fine.
Shot for the feedback, good to hear it's mostly an enjoyable experience. I'll be doing my studies abroad so I was a little nervous as to what type of environment to expect.
Hi guys,
Thanks for the thread MH :D
Anyway, I'm a Hip Hop head first and foremost, but I honestly listen to all kinds of music ranging including alternative rock, jazz, classical, soul, acapella, pop, house (most of its variants). As a poet, I'm drawn to lyrical content, and as beatmaker/digital composer (shameless sound link :p:https://soundcloud.com/saint_dee/68-068), I'm drawn to a good melody, complex or simple.
Anyway, my current playlist consists of:
Lupe Fiasco - Lasers
Kanye West - Graduation
Florence + the Machine - Between Two Lungs
The Kooks
Iron Maiden's Discography
Gorillaz - Demon Days
Pentatonix - PTX Volume 1 & 2
