I had a quick glance at the Play Store. Of the top 100 grossing games, the games that make the most amount of money, only one is not free-to-play, and it is in fact Minecraft. It's unbelievable to think that this is what mobile gaming has gone to...
Not sure as to what you mean by that? Is it wrong that most people don't want to spend cash on their games? Or that the mobile gaming industry is taking a chance with in-game purchases?
You don't have to buy any jewels at all. Just takes super long to do anything.
The problem is that these micro-transaction fueled, so-called 'free to play' games are ruining the market. Dungeon Keeper mobile can barely even be considered a game.
I have a rule that I don't play any F2P games on the Google Play Store, with the exception of a few like Angry Birds. 99% of f2p games are bogged down by microtransactions to the point where they're unplayable unless you spend money.
The thing is, not everyone wants to spend hours upon hours playing games on their phones. This way, the smaller 'gaming' market can jump in and out without spending a dime. And who knows, perhaps buy a few gems here and there.
I think there are enough options out there for both camps.
And by unable to play you mean waiting a few hours for something to happen?
I have to disagree. Yes, waiting can be a bitch. But for the few (or many) of us who have busy schedules, it works out perfectly.
And there is plenty to do (as far as a F2P mobile game can go). I've been playing clash of clans for a while now. And its actually fun.
And seriously, WHY would you even want to buy the in-game micro-transactions? R70 for 500 Gems? R100 to fill up your warehouse?

This is exactly what I was saying :)
I have a hard time understanding why you guys think waiting 24 hours for a single block to be mined is cool. If you're short on time the solution isn't to reduce what you can do in your playtime, it's to reduce your play-sessions. What's the difference between tapping two blocks that takes 24 hours to mine then switching the game off and tapping two blocks that take a few seconds to mine and switching the game off? Are you going to feel forced to play longer in the latter? Because that wouldn't be a fault with the game, that would be a fault with you.
It's laughable, to be honest. This game is nothing more than an attempt to make a quick buck. Dungeon Keeper has never been like Travian and EA turning it into a time-gated game like Travian is a travesty for the series.
Dude, mobile gaming is a massive component to the industry. ALL gaming mediums are out there to make money, and make lots of money. There might be 2 dev houses that have morals, but 99% of them are out to make cash.
What's the difference in paying $30 for a game, vs $30 in gems? What would be the point in mining resources then if given away freely? Something like clash of clans is easily played without spending a cent. All you do is remove obstacles resulting in gems. Removing an obstacle take 30sec. Upgrades take time, yes, but hot dang son, how impatient are you?
