What can windows 7 do that XP can't, aside from DX 10/11?
Honest question.
it runs faster than XP in every instance i've seen it in action so far.
All applications and searches and what not seem to be 1000 times faster on Win7 than XP on my machine!
What can XP do that 98 can't? Honest question.
The gap between XP/Win 7 is a big one, but that gap isn't made up of what it can and can't do. If you went by that mentality you'd be stuck in 95. The most notable benefits are drastic performance optimizations and perfect support for 64bit (64bit is right around the corner from becoming staple). Windows 7 is to XP, what XP was to 98.
Before you know it, Microsoft is going to drop support for XP, they are not obligated to support it forever, much like what happened with 95/98. Then the developers drop support for it, making running a lot of future software a gamble.
I have win7 ultimate and all my games run so smooth and the highest setting for all games. I never really liked xp.
98 had really crummy support for faster processers. XP also used the NT kernel which meant major stability improvements.
I'm a bit suspicious of claimed performance improvements, tbh. Usually, each new OS is more sluggish than its predecessor; Vista was a total nightmare in that regard.
Right now I'm happy with my XP 64bit OS.
Each to their own i suppose, but I can honestly say that Win7 x64 is vastly better than XP x64, no errors @ all, massive hardware support, super fast searching, the taskbar right-click features alone should nab you. . . If you've got any friends with Win7 x64 you should go check it out. I know it's a hard sell to certain people, but really Win7 is Microsofts best OS to date.
Yeah, using win7 64bit myself, and it's running like a dream. Had vista ultimate 64bit before, and I honestly feels this runs better. And it's much more supported than vista was on release.
Not forgetting FAT32 vs NTFS. That was bad.
Networking was better for domains on XP
I don't think 98 has 64bit support either.
98 was better than XP at launch in my opinion. But it was quickly taken over. I think the same for windows 7. Right now XP is better, but it'll quickly be taken over by 7.
nope 7s better now...... i have them both on on machine virtualy the same programs and games installed , boot time way better, networking way better, security way better ,resouse usage way less .
it see's more than 3 gigs of ram
programs like photoshop much more responsive
games .....
And I used to like XP from all the MS OS (Linux my main)
Hats off to 7
