If you leave your pc on and let it go into sleep mode the idle power consumption is incredibly low and you will most likely not see any difference on your month end electricity bill.
As for hardware wear and tear, again won't make much if any difference because the system is in idle, so the hardware isn't under any load. The only time you'll see any form of wear and tear is if the pc runs 24/7 under full load and even then, if its properly ventilated and not getting hot it'll be fine.
if you doing it to save energy, you should unplug instead of turning em off. Transformers consume power even when nothing is drawing power. or flick the switch at the back.
A PC that is turned off can still draw up to 1W/h, oh and while we at it your phone charger still consume power even if no phone is plugged in.
I personally let my PC hop in and out of sleep. I hate to close my browser, so when I have to shut down or restart, I press the the restart switch :p
I normally use sleep often but I try shut it down ever 48 hours. No idea why but that's me
I switch my PC on when I wake up in the morning and, most of the day I'm on it, so it only gets shut down at or after 00:00.
Never shuts down ..... I never know when I'll be needing something or doing something so better to be prepared.
All I'll say is Torrents dictates your life somehow"whistling:
My PC stays on pretty much 24/7.
Been getting into [email protected] to help out as much as I can.
