PS4: Great gaming console with media playing capabilities*1
XBONE: Great media player with gaming capabilities*2
*1 When applicable update has been made to the system to allow media playback.
*2 When applicable update has been made from Multichoice to allow integrated TV functions.
My stance on the XB1 vs. PS4 - If you owned any of the previous gen consoles then get the successor, you will feel at home with it. Even if you choose to switch it up you will not be disappointed.
I own an xbox 360 and a ps3, so I guess it means I would feel at home with either. I'm still leaning towards the PS4 though, I'm more after a gaming console than a media player, although it does bug me that it doesn't have DLNA support. At least you can play Netflix on them, and these days we don't even have normal TV anymore, all our TV is Netflix and Hulu Plus played through the consoles.
My 1000% unbiased opinion is and will for ever remain 'If the XBONE came out before the PS4 I would have gotten that, but because the PS4 launched almost a year before the XBONE I was not willing to wait that long for a console, I bought a PS4 and am super happy with it. I wish to own a XBONE at some stage as well simply to play the exclusives, and my PS4 will remain my primary gaming system. The reverse would have happened if I bought a XBONE.'
Next week see's the release of Update 2.0 which is a start with support for MP3 playback via USB devices, so I can assume DLNA support is not far behind.
I am a pc gamer but if I had to choose a console I think I would pick the PS4.
