on a sort of related note (forgive my excitement), i have just picked up an MSI GTX 970 with the Twin Frozr fans. these babies sit IDLE (literally don't move) until the GPU hits 65 degrees :) so for general surfing, your fans don't get worked and it will (in theory) extend life of the card/fans
I have the same card, but Gigabyte brand. Mine runs at close to 90 degrees under load sometimes with fan settings already set optimally. Granted, I've got a tiny case (Bitfenix Colossus M). Still need to make a plan to get to Joker's place to sort it out - he offered to help me get the temps down, being the super nice guy he is.
Just an update to my post. Recently got a raidmax tower. I'm not certain how, but the psu fan is quiet as hell now. A friend of mine believes that it's because the psu now rests at the bottom of the chassis on these rubber things o.O.
Also, in the new chassis, hot cold air is sucked in through an open grate. I was planning on replacing the psu and I'm pleasantly surprised that a chassis fixed my issue :).
