Yeah, mages should always be your top priority target. They can become a serious problem if you leave them alone in the back, spewing fireballs, all kinds of AoE storms and debuffing the heck out of your party.

Okay, so I just had my ass handed to me by a Dragon. Guess I'm just not ready yet, but I can't see the fight getting much easier even if I came back at a higher level. It's really insane stuff.
First time I had a decent time to play just completed the fael and got killed a few times but just change tactics and it was easy peasy. Just hit level 10
might be a redcliff spoiler.
Defending redcliff was cool but just wish I could save those dudes.
The golem dude is awesome with another warrior. Still want to see what happens if I put a rouge in the warriors place.
I killed the Dragon last night..
Spoiler:
I got the High Dragon for the awesome armor and I killed Flemeth
The tactic is to have just ranged focused on the target and have 1 warrior in CC. Then all you do is when the dragon turns in your direction move to his side. When he does it again, move to his other side. Rinse and repeat. The fight becomes very easy.
I also used Shale to tank. If you can get your hands on Large Clear Fire Crystal that will help a ton!
Also killed the high dragon, much easier at lvl 18. Wynne, Morrigan, and Lelliana ranged, main warrior with shield taking the punishment. Mages still kick my ass, trying to level up main with Templar dispel magic skills now, should've started earlier as the Darkspawn throw bunches of mages at you later.
Spoiler:
Absolute worst mage is in the 'suspicious hovel' in Denerim. No way to get my ranged peeps out of the AOE weakness, etc. effects and he resists everything, so you just get punished and hope you don't run out of lyrium :(.
make sure you're up-to-date with drivers and SP's ........ game wise, just be sure to explore a lot, don't rush :D
oh and buy a satchel/backpack at the first opportunity .... you need the space ;)
