For guys who wanted to read the codex before they should. You need to copy java.exe into the folder as well. Most of these files contain spoilers so you are warned:

I posted this last night, but it was locked and I was asked to use the exisiting CC snooping-around-in-the-data-files thread.
It appears that the Character Creator comes with a core_en-us.tlk file that contains a whole bunch of text from the full game. One of the things that I found while poking around there were +- 290 entries of what I can only assume is Dragon Age's version of the Codex.
I've made a quick tool to extract all these codex entries as .html files so you can read them and browse through them. I could just put the text itself online, but that probably wouldn't be legal. You can however download the tool HERE so you can extract them yourself.
Unzip this to it's own folder, copy core_en-us.tlk from the Character Creator to that folder (search for it under packages / core / data / talktables) and run start.bat. If it doesn't work you probably don't have Java installed, you can get that for free at java.com.
A word of warning: the mods have already said that reading the Codex could severely spoil your game. I haven't read most of them myself, but it's very possible that some later entries make references to things you'll experience at the start or the middle of the game. They also warned that old entries aren't usually removed, so some of these entries might contain incomplete or outdated information. You extract and read these at your own peril!
Who wants to go and read the story before the game is out? I mean do you want to spoil it for yourself or are you just an @ss for go and reading the story before you play the game. (excluding movie to games games)
I agree... I want it to be as "new" an experience as possible, without being able to anticipate the storyline or what will happen next. I've been trying to keep as minimalist an approach to the Dragon Age information out there as possible :p
Some people don't get influenced by knowing the story. Everyone is different. Thankfully there is an index so you can know which files will have major spoilers and which won't. Like for instance I don't see reading the spell combo files as being spoilers while reading the character or story files would be spoiling the game.
