Need for Speed’s Reboot to return to its underground roots
The way NFS was always meant to be.
About bladdy time!
See, I really really enjoyed Shift, and didn't like the "Underground" genre. Maybe that's just because of the nostalgia of playing original NFS...anyone remember how you could go and sit in some of the cars in the showroom with the "3d" imagery of the interior?? And the Lambo getting 202mph on the one straight, if dont hit any cars.....good times...
Awesome, haven't really played a NFS game properly since the 2 underground games, glad its going back to it.
True story, Nfs 3 to 5 allowed you to do that, the last of the true need for speed titles, the underground games where utter schitte cashing in on the F&F generation and
i would rather play a game with variable scenery like this

than one that looks like this (need for speed was always about exotic cars in exotic locations, not this tuner schitte below)
there's a reason why aeroplane wings on the back and tacky vinyls on the side died out so quickly in the real world tuner generation

Need for Speed: The Run has variable scenery.
the original 6 NFS games up to hot pursuit II
Most wanted was pretty good, and a return of exotic cars. most wanted also had a pretty varied map
carbon was a ok, pro street looked good but handled crap, undercover was a collosal handling and graphical failure.
the 1st shift game was really good, it was like a breath of fresh air, it was ten times better than blackbox ever did during the prior years
Shift 2 looked impressive but the handling was a bit too loose and disjointed, sales also sucked thats why a shift 3 was never made (technically project cars is shift 3 since it uses an evolution of that engine)
Hot Pursuit 2010 was extremely impressive, probably the best of the 3rd wave nfs titles
THe run looked good but failed in the gameplay department and with its schitty sticky ai
most wanted reboot looked stunning at times, pity it didnt sell so well
rivals looked good but a game that cant pause, seriously ?
Damn Dohc, you just broke my heart with your hateful belligerence towards NFS Underground- I had so many fond memories of that game! xD
YAY! Finally.. something the majority of us have been waiting for SO LONG!
Most wanted has to be my favourite in the series. It had it all combined (and wasn't limited to "ooh badass night-time racing"), and was all optional. I felt the Underground titles semi forced you to "pimp" your ride, where Most Wanted didn't. And as you say, it was the return of the exotic cars...The whole game just worked quite well.
They then lost the plot again with Carbon IMHO. Can't comment on some of the others as I kinda gave up, tried The Run. The F%&#ING annoying ai "catchup" crap really pissed me off. If I can overtake EVERYONE within the first 1/3 of the map from all the way in the back, why do i then have to constantly fight them all when I'm ahead only to lose right at the end despite a perfect run, because the AI can somehow go 300km/h through that last turn.
I wish they'd do a proper exotic super car redo, as mottamort said. I loved NFS:SE (the first one) the most and had months of fun with it. I remember playing the demo (with that royal blue Dodge Viper along the coastal track) to death before getting the game. I still remember the rumbling sound as you drive through the wooden bridge on that one autumn-themed track...
And this is how you break the Internet

Don't be hating on NFS Underground, literary playing at this moment, very fun. So glad they are going back to their Underground roots, best was nr2, was still best in the series.(in my opinion)
loved the first UG, ug 2 was ok but I loved Most wanted (not the reboot/rehash)
I wonder if the upgradeable engine and body parts, are going to be fully licensed, or be given generic names?
Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) is my favourite and most memorable; Underground 2 follows in at a close 2nd.
I enjoyed the underground versions when they came out, but not a big fan of them now. With that said, for the people who like it, it does seem it's about time. For the guys who have been looking forward to this, good for you guys. For me I'm hoping for another hot pursuit.
I'm really glad to hear this news that Need For Speed to doing the whole Underground thing. Honestly, it's not the big departure than what they've been doing, so that marketing bullshit from the other day was totally useless. Nevertheless, I honestly hope they do a good job with it.
On the topic of Underground, I loved the first one much much more than the second one. The first NFS Underground was the very first racing game that made me care way too much for my car than a game should do. I loved my Mitsubishi so much, and never wanted to drive anything else. If they can capture that magic in the new game, then sign me up!!!
