Why I think the 10 character rule kills conversations.

I give out a lot of rep. Quite often the reason for this rep will be "+1". The disadvantage being that no one sees this except for the person who gets the rep. But surely that's enough and there's no reason for the lift of the 10 character rule? My problem comes in that I want to rep someone but can't because I have to spread it around a bit. It makes me feel like a cheap whore. But it's understandable because otherwise it would lead to an abuse of the system.

So then there's the whole likes thing. Which is maybe a good idea. I don't give out negative rep in any case so maybe having a system that only shows positive reinforcement is good.

Only if you use the img tag. If you use the forum upload feature you need those characters.

If it tallies the likes easily fine. Otherwise it just lists the likes at the bottom of the post, right?

So I see my "I Like" button suggestion gained some support last night. I retract my retraction :)

Don't know enough about the BB Forum system to say whether it would be a fair replacement for the present Rep Points system though. Can it be set up to limit the number of Likes a user can give per day/month? Does it track the number of Likes a poster receives to their profile? Will people use it more than the Rep system?

Either way, my original vote still stands - I really don't have an issue with the limit or system as it is at the moment, nor would I have a problem if He Who Must Decide makes some changes.
