This brings tears to my eyes....
Meh, I knew this was going to happen back when I bought my PS2, and then started to realized how flawed the PC is as a gaming platform. There are just so many niggles that are holding the PC back for it to even really compete. Piracy, DRM, Hardware / Software issues, viruses and so on.
I love my PC, but I love my console(s) as well.
Same here. Use to be a PC only gamer back in early 2000. But when i bought my original xbox and saw the ease with which to play a game it sold me. I still love my PC and nothing beats a nice PC only epic like STALKER or Diablo 2 but i love my Consoles just as much. Missing out on Halo, Uncharted, GOW, God of War, Heavy Rain... nah.
Just wonder with games like Battlefield Bad Company 2, Starcraft II : Wings of Liberty, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Brink, Dragon Age Origins is it so bad? It is not like pc gaming is going away there will always be pc's, thus there will always be a market for the pc games maybe not as big as console.
I bought my PS3 when the Slim was released. It was way cheaper than upgrading my PC and I can play all the games being released on PS3. Where my 5.5 year old PC cannot play any of the new games being released. I don't use my pc for games anymore, it's more a media player now.
But nothing beats play games with a keyboard and mouse. Games like Starcraft II and Call Of Duty just works better on a keyboard and mouse than some console control.
Will my my PC games
PC gaming might seem less popular than console gaming, but I wonder if it has become less popular measured against itself than it was before.
As a an exclusive PC gamer there is one big boon I find from the popularity of consoles, and that is that I only have to upgrade every time a new generation of consoles comes out.
Stupid copy protection is not a new thing... I remember Kings Quest 4 having this book in which you had to go to a certain random page, paragraph sentence, and word for a password. And you had to wear those red 3D glasses to be able to read the book.
The author makes some fairly good points. It's probably accurate to say that PC gaming is in a decline - but I don't think it will go away. There will always be a market. There will always be hard-core PC gamers (who will lay the hate on the console players) who will be more than willing to pay the buck to have the latest and greatest rigs.
Biggest draw back of a console for me personally is the controller don't like it at all if this new motion control stuff gets working leker maybe I will try that. or if they bring out like a mouse and keyboard for the Xbox witch I don't see happening though.
Two comments on this whole thing
Firstly, that lovely picture showing that PCs are losing sales every year. One must consider that steam - the biggest online gaming distribution application, doesn't release it's sales figures. I've spent more on steam "specials" the past 2 years than I've spent on box games.
Secondly, the PC market has just opened the doors to others because of this "suckage" that is coming to PC games. Indie games have taken off. Gog is doing well. Consoles are holding graphics back, meaning you don't need to upgrade your PC as often anymore... PC games are cheaper. The market is moving and leaving huge holes for newcomers to come and make themselves a name.
