Girls are not special. I really could care less if I am playing against a girl, as long as she is in my sights she will fall no mercy. That includes the guys too:p
LoL. Nice read Azi :D
b:eek::eek:bs :D
With re to MMO's just say you a girl you wont believe the amount of free uber gear u get :D
Uhmm yeah... Don't mention your a girl gamer, your stats will show it ;-) jk
Oh, snap. He went there.
There is a girl that plays COD4 promod with us. Holy crap, she's one of the best and quickest snipers out there.
Respect her authoritah!
I dont see the need for any fuss about girl gamers...
I dont know maybe its just me, but in my online circles i have never experienced players freaking out like this if they find out a girl is playing with.
Yes some ppl are idiots and immature morons - maybe even more so in the male online gaming community, because you can just do what the f#(& you want and nobody knows you, but you would find this in real life as well.
Just dont bother with such people. Seriously.
(At least in WOW you can just hit 'ignore' and Bob's your uncle.)
So yes, i dont care who is owning who in a game of COD/GOW/TF2, if you're good, you're good. It also means that if you are the one being owned, you should actually take notes on how to play better and stop making excuses, or insulting the other players (male OR female).
A small part of me leaps for joy when I see or hear of female gamers.
Here's to playing co-op with my wife one day and arguing over what we are gonna play next :D
(and solving the issue over a game of UT3)
lol. woman are expensive irl... then watch your gold drop when they join you online :D
No, dont remember her. But I know what you mean. Often better than the guys
Yeaahhhhh, I'm going to assume you haven't spent much time playing with girls then. :P I've encountered quite a lot of harassment on local servers, on one occasion being extremely sexually explicit and offensive. I do, however, include the OMG INSTANT FRIEND INVITES and people trying to talk to me about random personal stuff while I'm playing as harassment, though, even if it's quite benign. It's true, of course, that this sort of thing happens in real life too.
That said, a lot (most) guys are perfectly nice to game with. I do tend to keep quiet on public voice channels, though. Most of the time I'm playing online, especially on Xbox LIVE, the people I'm playing with have no idea I'm female.

How long until we regard other people based on something other than their chromosomes?
While there are obvious differences which should be taken into account [such as those involving childbirth],
there have been, and still are, silly, irrational notions around discriminating against people based on their gender.
It is one of those stupid things that no thinking person should be suscetible to.

Some girl once called me noob over voice chat in HoN then everyone laughed. I almost cried...
Girls are just hard to beat in team games. They're able to control and manipulate male gamers in any way they wish to do their bidding, everyone listens to the girl...
Another thing I noticed is that everyone in the team gives 100% when there's a girl in the team, to "impress" her.
My experience, being that I play a lot of WoW which is probably the game with the most women playing it, is:
1: They're generally no better or worse than any guy at what they do, but the relatively low percentage of female players, particularly raiders, means the ones that perform poorly often create a bad impression of the gender as a whole. There are more 'good' male gamers because there are more male gamers, simple demographics.
2: It's a complete fallacy that they're better at 'carebear' roles like healing or, say support (medic, engineer etc). No, they don't multitask better. This is a commonly held misconception, but the reality is that males react better under strain and can focus on the team's goals rather than solely their own. That said, some of my guild's highest DPSers are women. They are incredibly nitpicky, precise and reliable once they've got something figured out, they seem to enjoy having a routine more and will not deviate from it, whereas guys will try something different if they start getting bored. Men need more discipline to keep them in line.
3: Initially, they're a novelty to have around in a male-dominated area, and might get preferential treatment at first, but when the chips are down and the stakes are high, that changes quite quickly.
4: While, technically, they tend to perform at the same level overall, they can't seem to handle stress, pressure and critique as well as a male, they tend to take things personally and they tend to catalyse and foment emo and drama as a result. I have witnessed, in a prior guild, a female breaking down in tears when chewed out for a failure, which led to her boyfriend who also played throwing his toys out and this resulted in a rift within the guild between two camps that never quite healed. It's not always the case, but generally they need gentler treatment, which is not always possible. Female members of our 'progression' team are therefore rarer - not because we exclude them but because they choose not be - even though we're a lot more laid back than most raiding guilds.
Anyway, here's Skurm's Guide to Being a Girl Gamer:
1: Stop harping on about it. Having a vageen doesn't make you special.
2: See 1.
My fiance can kick my butt in ANY strategy game and even in some racing games. The only game I own in is FPS games. Heck, she even button-mashed my butt in Soul Calibur 4!!!! I love my fiance!!
Button mashers always win at Soul Calibur IV :-(, woman should also stop making themselves out to be woman gamers and just play the games. If they are good their stats will reflect it, if they suck like I do at most games then so be it. Everyone has their thing.
I think to a huge degree male gamers perpetuate the issue with girl gamers by either making a big deal out of it or helping them not help themselves. Point in case, my girlfriends loves playing games but gets frustrated quickly and instead of doing the right thing i.e. providing guidance but letting her struggle herself, I ended up finishing a tricky section for her and letting her play afterwards (in my defense dying at that point would have taken her back to the beginning of the level).
I agree with Skurm that female gamers do need to be treated differently although not necessarily preferentially. I have often played with girls in tf2 and the chemistry (not the kinky kind) they bring into the game is different from the guys. It does makes for interesting gameplay though.
How can she say we aren't special???
Lilith sounds awfully alot like a mybb member...
I've actually seen a number of interesting things concerning Ladies in Gaming, I refuse to use the "Girl" Prefix as most of them are over the age of 10
You get a number of different types in games , the avid "Attention Seeker", she's the one that outs herself or chooses a name thats obviously female, seeks attention and thrives on it.
Not because she need sit, but because she likes being the centre of attention presumably
The "Indignant", she's the one that outs herself and then complains at the first instance of anything even remotely sexual being said to her.
**Ladies, please take note, a large portion of online gamers have never felt the warmth of a woman's touch, these male gamers are reduced to the basest creature you will ever encounter, reduced to saying rude and immensely inappropriate things to female gamers specifically because they do not know better.
These gamers are generally banned on sight on my servers as I don't tolerate abusive language towards Ladies, yes this reflects on my upbringing :/
And the last archtype is the "Anonymous", these Ladies PWN everything in their sight, moving with an agility that is seldom seen amongst male gamers, killing gracefully and relishing the rush of besting their perceived male superiors.
These Ladies I respect, not due to their gender, but rather their keen understanding that Pixels do not carry a gender and that gaming is a neutral past time.
What about male gamers who act like girls most of the time when gaming anyways? I see them online a LOT. Can we commense to kick them inna panty?
That demonstrates that most males are reduced to their cave man selves the second they even suspect a female is on server with them.
Trust me guys, if you learn nothing in life, these words are worth remembering.
Playing games WILL NOT pick up the ladies, the same holds true for playing a game well.
I've NEVER heard of a case where an unscope in CoD has lead to a Lady losing her heart to the sniper.
Haha was waiting for the first female to comment on that picture....
Makes me think of the good old days:
