To be honest I'm not enjoying this stalker that much. I get easily frustrated with elements of the gameplay. About 2 hours into the game the first emission hits, and I go hide in a house with another group of guys. For some reason the emission kills only me. My last save game was as the announcement for the emission, and there were no safe-area's that i could run to. I had to start the game over again. WTF?
Arrrggg then i think ill give this a skip. The 1st one was so much fun. Still play it now and again. Second one was okyish.
But "the best STALKER to date but without any soul" scares me.
No safe spots? But the place is littered with them. I admit the emmision, in my opinion should not be anouched, the player should spot the signs of a coming emission and find a spot to hid in. I didn't encounter this error u got Duncan but my version save a new save everytime it made an auto save so i didn't have far to go back if something did go horribly wrong.
Its not a bad game, its technically a good fps/RPG. It just feels a little hollow compared to Shadow of Chernobyl, Oblivion Lost or Clear Sky.
@ Tpex who commented in the main article. Check the Wiki-pages (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalker_call_of_pripyat, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.T.A.L.K.E.R.:_Clear_Sky, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.T.A.L...w_of_Chernobyl) It lists it as a Firstperson Shooter Roleplaying Game Survival Horror. Shadow of Chernobyl has always been pitched as a complete Hybrid FPS with strong Survival Horror elements. The constant threat of Mutant or Bandit attack along with ammo and health pack constraint it fits perfectly into the Survival Horror. It is due to Call of Pripyat removing alot of these element, coz lets face it the first 2 where not exceptional shooter or rpg's. But combine those elements with the Survival horror elements and you got the unique experience that was the Stalker games. Call of Pripyat lacks this.
With Metro 2033 not too far away I doubt I'd still bother getting this STALKER game, but it does look good and worth a try someday I guess.
I really liked it but I agree with omega on this.
Look what i said here:
I never said it was a survival horror, nor did i compare it to Dead Space, Silent Hill or Resident Evil all of which are survival horrors. I compared S.T.A.L.K.E.R Call of Pripyat to the 2 S.T.A.L.K.E.R games that come before it. Both of which had strong survival horror elements, elements being the key word there. However, in my experience these Survival horror elements have been tuned down, whether consciously or if the change had come as a mere by product of the tweaked loot and economy system.
I am not trying to sell the other 2 S.T.A.L.K.E.R titles as hardcore survival horror game like Dead Space, Silent Hill or Resident Evil or damn Call of Pripyat because it is not those titles. I am saying the strong presence of those survival horror elements in the first two titles of the series (S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl & S.T.A.L.K.E.R Clear Sky) had been one of the drawing points that made the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games unique and that fans of the original two titles may, view Call of Pripyat's toned down version of these elements, as i did, negatively.
understood
I see tinman has a question also.
Granted but how about wiping out an entire camp of bandits methodically, surely one of them would say "Oh this dude is killing us" the same goes for a mission where you have the choice to help or betray them. Obviously betraying them would cause anger from their leader... not so in Call of Pripyat.Quote:
I could walk up to a pair, shoot one in the head and cap the other one as he grabbed his rifle then walk not a 100 meters up the road to a position held by them and they welcomed me with open arms, so to speak.(Ed. That actually sounds kinda realistic, if no one saw you kill the first guys...)
As for the automatic shotgun... it is awesome but once u have it, nothing is really a threat any more, no mutants anyway.
I'm definitely going to get this once i've finished Clear Sky.
i haz original right here :)
/pats das original :)
I've played a couple of hours of Pripyat...At first it seemed rather bland, but it picks up. Feels very different playing with the mindset of the soldier.
I really enjoyed a mission in the beggining, getting some artifact off a boat where you get ambushed...must have played it over about 20 times until i managed to actually get the ambushers rather than just hand the artifact over.
I also tried handing it over then following the guy who took it all the way to the trader, he then cashed it in like i would have.... says a lot for the detail they go into making the STALKERS living breathing people in the game world.
