They site does not seem quite right. I mean, the other day a bidpack sold worth R250 bucks made them 15k. Well so I was told.
Are there any other sites like them around?

Smokoo - Fictions and Facts
Smokoo is not the first pay-to-bid auction site to hit cyberspace. Others in Europe have been operating for several years and similar sites have begun appearing in the US.
We’ve learned a lot from their experiences and operating procedures and have used that knowledge to create a site that guarantees the satisfaction and security of our bidders throughout their stay and on every visit to Smokoo.co.za.
As a new concept in South Africa, the pay-to-bid auction has already provoked one or two misconceptions. Below, we have set out to dispel these in a table of “Fictions and Facts”
Fiction: Smokoo offers no guarantee on goods purchased in its auctions.
Fact: Smokoo offers only brand-new, fully guaranteed items in their original packaging for auction. The guarantee obligations lie with the suppliers/manufacturers of the items and not with Smokoo, who merely provides the auction platform.
Fiction: Smokoo makes enormous profits on all of its auction items.
Fact: Like any business, we must make profits to continue operating. It is true that some auctions can generate good profits. For many auctions, the profits may just cover our operating costs and sometimes an auction can actually return a loss. Smokoo is, in fact, a typical business!
Fiction: Some of the bidders are actually employees or even software programmes designed to push up the bidding.
Fact: Firstly, no employee of Smokoo or immediate family member of an employee is permitted to take part in any auction. Furthermore no software robots of any description operate on our site. The outcome of an auction is determined by the bidders alone and subject to independent audit.
Fiction: Auction winners are simply names; they are not real bidders.
Fact: Our winners are definitely real people. All auction transactions conducted via the Smokoo pay-to-bid site are audited by independent, international auditing
If you have any further questions or concerns regarding the operation of the Smokoo pay-to-bid auction site you may click Here to browse our Help page.
If your question remains unanswered we will be more than happy to help. Just drop us an email at [email protected].
Isn't that on the FAQ page or something?
Either way, it's been explained now how the whole thing operates and how it actually costs a lot more to "win" an item. So even though the faq posted above may look good to some of you reading this, stay away. You'll most likely just lose money if you join them.
why don't i believe the above...Quote:

...even if real (no link to smokoo) ppl win/buy the goods, i am willing to bet there are bots or workers that bid in order to get the price up of most items
ps: i must admit that i did try it out, and actually have a few bids left, but they will never see me again.
pps: why get an international audit company to audit a local company, why not get a local branch of kpmg
i dont trust these sites
I was actually looking to starting a penny auction site, got a few turnkey scripts
I'm not saying smokoo is the same, but ALL of the scripts had a section in the admin to add auto bidders (ie; bots) with unlimited bids
I would never trust any penny auction site other than the original swoopo.com
Hello everyone,
I have found this thread thoroughly fascinating. During the lifecycle of any business it is good practise to explore the variety of different views people have, I only wish we jumped on and engaged with some of the very passionate MyGaming members a lot sooner.
At Smokoo we have an open door policy, and I would love for any one of you guys that hold a negative view of our company to pop by and join us for a tour of the offices in Rivonia and meet a few of the team (we are a bunch of creative fellows so I'm sure you will relate). Any questions you have about the site we would be more than happy to answer these for you.
If you aren't able to make it for a tour, why not give our support team a shout. They too could answer any questions you may have. Often, what happens is, when people don't understand something, they call it a scam or a bunch of other colourful words. It's just a matter of taking a bit of time to read through the site and I guarantee you will have a different view.
When you are on the site take a look at all the recent winners. These guys have thoroughly enjoyed their Smokoo experience and if we were a scam (so far from it) I can promise you they wouldn't want their pictures splashed across our site. Perhaps you might even know one or two of them?
Thanks so much for the opportunity to post on your site!
Kind regards
Smokoo shop
I don't think you guys are a scam. In that I do believe that the people who win the bids do actually get the items.
However the amount it costs in the end is completely different from what is displayed. It's deceptive and even though it's not criminal, it's fraudulent (by definition). Maybe some people do get bargains but it's my opinion that many people just lose a lot of money there, as if they are gambling.
Hey Guys
I agree.
Check out this website though
http://www.dropandshop.co.za
It’s smokoo in reverse
Prices start at retail, but are hidden.
To the see the price you must bid (which costs between R0.5 to R2)
Every time some 1 bids the price goes down R1
You have the choice to purchase at the lower price, or wait for it to drop further.
Wait to long and some one else with bag the bargain, which in turn resets the price to Retail.
Then the fun starts all over again
Its a new fun way to shop
and the prices are always below retail
Its win win!
I love it
I hope you guys will to
