I'll definitely be getting mine but first things first.... COD Blackops :D
I heard the campaign is short, any truth in this?
So guys, is the retail version better than the open BETA?
It's fun. Takes a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it's worth it. How long will it last? Who knows.
came this >< close to buying it since its R500 for the console version... ended up with Dead Rising 2 instead :p
I don't think it's the local guys. I think it's www.gameservers.com that are incredibly anal and will not relinquish control to another party. From what i've heard is either that do it themselves or not at all.
That, or they are simply reinforcing the knowledge that Europe/North America/Asia doesn't give a crap about African gamers.
100%. Kon dit nie beter gestel het nie.
It's all in the hands of gameservers. They are the ones being all anal about this entire story. I have it on good account that quite a couple of local ISP's / GSP's came in contact with them but GS.com just turns a blind eye each time
We must just remember that for them its all business. If SA has 2000 players online a night on Black Ops which will be amazing then we still dont even count as a blimp to the international guys. Obviously we cant compare seeing as we are worlds apart especially where numbers occur.
Same applies to WoW local servers. Blizzard wont do it as the numbers dont add up for them to do it. I reckon gameservers will end up giving us dedis but ja our local gaming guys must try and work more closely with the developers to ensure that we arent look upon as "who cares" and more as "there is a market to use".
Played a bit and im sorry thus far its a load of nonsense this game. It doesnt even deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as BC2 and MW2 and Cod4 for that matter. On the 1st day of the game its allready boiled down to who camps the most gets the most kills and killstreaks and thus it ends up for the most part in a turkey shoot.
Balance issues in the sense of i shoot a guy with an AK-47 in the chest at least 4 shots and he then starts to shoot with a M16 and kills me 1st. Is that lag or wtf? Im sorry im not the greatest BF fan in the world but BC2 is way better than this and MW2 and cod4 is also a world apart from this. Maybe after a couple of days it might be better or maybe grow on me but thus far i feel its really not as advertised.
I did read elsewhere that the camping and spawn points are lame.
Sounds like nothing much improved since I played the beta. Disappointing :(
Thats why I didn't buy it. The camping was already horrible in the first days of the BETA. That and the maps didn't inspire the confidence I would have liked to have in the game before buying it.
Even then maybe those were just the beta maps but then the first reviews also didn't inspire any confidence in the game.

Good review on the game.
Bought it and so far its really bad. The SP is so boring, the graphics actually look quite ****. The guns are unrealistic. The atmosphere is bland. The BETA worked flawlessly on my PC, but now its just mega stutter non stop, it looks like insane lag but cant be because it does the same in SP. Weak.
played quite a bit last night (mp) and really enjoyed it!!
prefer it to BFBC. Going to try sp player soon, but I only bought it to get my online fps fix. I don't quite understand the hate on the gfx front, it looks good - a lot of detail has been put in. Also the game runs super smooth with no hucks at all.
There are a lot of local game servers up and it was soooo easy to find them all, search by region - klar. My gad how simple was that.
Also the spawn time is short and you can spawn right in the front line where the action is (or back at the base), no running for 10 million miles to get back to the defense / attack point only to get shot down by a sniper in mid stride.
Will only decide if getting cod - ops if there are servers and how they are doing the shop pay things. Honestly not excited for it, they killed my joy on previous one.
Thanks for the feedback, glad I didn't buy this.
Played quite a lot last as well. It's pretty fun actually, the server browser actually works and you're up and running in no time. It's cool having an army of dudes running alongside you to the middle clash point of the map. I also like the ribbon/medal system and upgrading is pretty easy. Hit detection is fine, weapon balancing needs a bit of work, maps are cool so far.
As is typical, some games are infested with cheap players who think it's far more sporting to sit in one spot with their sniper rifles aimed at your base. First few games I died within seconds of spawning, this happened about five times in a row and I only actually came face to face with an enemy by about my tenth game. In a few games, I felt like I was the only player on the map because the enemy and my teammates all donned sniper class and sat on their asses, without chasing the objective.
So - spawning is terrible and so far it seems most people are stat chasing and not actually playing the game. But when the okes play properly, it works.
Single player is probably about 3 years behind it's competition. We've all seen it before, and we've seen it done much, much better. So far at least.
I'm really loving the Multiplayer, the Singleplayer is lame but I don't really care. Knowing that South Africa isn't going to get black op servers.. this is what what we'll be stuck with. I dont mind
Just copying and pasting my reply from other MoH thread:
Well, after a weekend of MoH online, I personally don't see this game lasting more than 6 months to be honest. It could really be a winner if they managed to fix some issues though. The spawn points firstly are super kak. Nothing prevents the enemy from camping near or in the spawn points and wasting okes as they spawn. Or dropping mortar/rocket strikes there either. Extremely stupid.
Then the inconsistency op weapons. Sometimes you shoot a guy once or twice in the head and he drops. Next time you can almost empty a clip and nada. Extremely frustrating. Also, the sniper rifles, with the scoped M24 one shot one kill 90% of the time, with the red dot rifle at least two shots to drop someone. That makes no sense.
Then splash damage of rocket launchers, tubes and nades is ridiculously stupid. And I don't mean by overkill, I mean by being seriously underpowered. You pretty much have to hit someone point blank with them to score a kill. If you fired a a RPG into a small room in which a sniper is camping, all you should find is pieces, but no, he shrugs it off and kills you. I know they are trying to limit tubers, but this is bordering on why bother having the weapons then at all?
Another thing I find stupid is the lack of distance you get on a nade. I mean, you player is supposed to be a trained and fit soldier and he can barely throw a nade far enough to not hurt you???
Now there are all things which might and will probably be fixed by patches eventually, but how do these things get past beta testing? Public and internal testing? Is that not kinda the point of beta tests? I can't help but feel that this was rushed to get it out before COD: BO and they will worry about the bugs later.
Played some more last night and it looks like I'll only be playing the Objectives and Sector Control playmodes. Unfortunately the assault mode is useless. The maps aren't balanced well enough. Either the defence side will always win or the attack side will always win. Those maps are too small as well.
Like Densweep said, 6 months tops and the game will be dead.
screw that. i am glad i had a few other things to do the weekend and did not buy the game. I will wait for COD Black Ops. Think that will be worth the money. Really sorry for the guys that bought the game and are not happy with it. i know how you must feel. Sorry guys.
I don't regret buying the game in the least. It was/is a nice distraction.
As for COD: BO, no point in buying it if they are not going to provide local servers for MP. That's why I am now waiting for the Bad Comapany 2 Vietnam add-on.
did not really get into BC2. too many huge patches to download. Game play is awesome but having to download the patches everytime before i play puts a big damp spot on the game for me. I got it the day it came out and there was a nice 400mb download waiting for me. I do understand that it make the game better to play but really irritates me. COD MW2 was the same but only 100mb about. that i can handle. Now when i tried to install BC2 again yesterday it was about 1.2gig waiting for me. I dont have an uncapped line yet cause i moved into my new place so for me to download that on 3G takes my cap for the month. I dont know. if the updates came in in drips and drabs over a period of time i can handle that like SC2.
Everything he said. Spawning is luck of the draw, you'll either survive long enough to get a few kills, or you'll get cut to ribbons within two seconds. Like I posted earlier, 90% of teammates don't play for objectives, 99.996% of all players are fcking snipers (Seriously, If I had my way, I'd eliminate the sniper class from all future MP games), those carrying RPGs are sitting five miles away from the objective instead of taking out the armor..When you do get into a game with okes that play to win though, it's loads of fun.
@ Toxin - right on, those maps are tiny - the only worthwhile game is Sector Control imo.
Frank, if you still have the old folder of your installed BC2, problem solved. Install the game fresh. Then copy and paste your old install folder over the new one, replacing whatever needs to be replaced. Then do the same with the folder that is in your documents folder. Voila, problem solved. No need to download updates and thus save yrself much cap.
As for sniper class, they should implement a class limitation. Came across is once on a international server on BC2. Chose sniper kit, spawned and "died" instantly upon spawning. Didn't count as a death, but you could not spawn as a sniper, if there were already 4 or 5. Very effective.
Pretty much I think. Depends on what server software is being used. But good luck with that on local servers, with the possible exception of iGame and WAGE. They are the only guys locally who make an effort to accommodate the local community. WAGE not quite as active, but I suspect that is largely due to popularity.
I'm just glad I didn't spend my money on this game. My funds for gaming is running very low at the moment and with next year's studies coming, I am spending my money on games that are actually worth it. MoH seems to be like one of those movies that grabbed your attention with the awesome trailers, and after finally watching the movie, you realise that the trailers ended up being better than the movie itself.
i'm installing the game now...so i'll be able to shortly say if i got a free game with my tshirt, or free tshirt with my game :)
. Ha.
lol ^
oh well i played the game for about 30min this morning, single player mode. there is nothing new, that made thought wow, but also nothing that is p*ssing me off yet...so far, your std FPS shooter.
at least it should keep me busy for a while - which is what i am looking for in a game
Hopefully win it. But I do want it either way. Fits thing is to get my xbox fixed though.
so fix it....get the bits and bobs from builders for about r50, and 60min later you should be sorted
ps who is playing the game?
as i'm stuck in the game, and i can't pass a stage...help pls
I know that i said I would not get this game but i finally got it cause i had nothing else to play that i was interested in playing again. Its a bit boring. Its very average. Just a question. How long does it take to find a game on multiplayer? I gave up on it after a 5min wait. Pisses me off.
