Default PC/Console Piracy vs Series/Movie Piracy

After having been on these forums for a while and having read the MANY opinions of various posters, I can not help but wonder why anyone here who merely hints at copying/pirating a game is instantly deemed the anti-christ, but talking about pirated tv series & movies is fine?

Is that not double standards? "Burn the PS3 hacker at the stake and afterwards I'll go watch the latest House or Smallville or Megamind BRrip on my PC."

Now I'm not saying everyone here watches pirated shows, but lets be honest, I reckon at least 80-90% of the MyG members either have or do so regularly.

So I ask again, why lay into console/PC hackers so, but TV/movie piraters are okay?

I hate it in any form, it's the same thing, you are stealing something, be it money or a movie you download, it's stealing end of story and you are a criminal.

    piracy is utter crap.

    Play games, not platforms

I always use this analogy: Scott Pilgrim vs the World was release abroad a full +3 months before its release here. Similarly its Blu-Ray release, which is already available in the rest of the world is only due out here in March. I downloaded it, as I did with the A-Team (which was also released here only several long months after its international release) and when it is released here I buy it, as I did with the A-Team, on Blu-Ray no less.

Even with DSTV the vast majority of programs, Big Bang Theory, Castle, Bones, etc. simply dont appear here until much much later. Of all the series I have downloaded it is only the ones I have not yet found in the shops that remain in their digital for. Does this absolve me from these crimes, no but I sleep better at night thinking of it that way.

The same argument cant be said of game piracy, IMO, since precious few people would go and buy a game after having played it for free, isn't the reason we trade games due to the fact that quiet often 1 play through it enough?

Copying series seems to be almost the norm nowadays. Everyone is doing it. I think you are spot on Den, its double standards.

Pirating is pirating. It seems though that some pirating is more acceptable than others.

    From a legal standpoint:
All the series and movies I have on my PC have been, or will pretty soon come on TV, and I pay for my DSTV, I just prefer watching it on my PC for convenience.

    From a moral standpoint:
What physical item have I taken? They still have the movie for themselves, I just have one too now. I won't argue this any further, you all know my feelings on the matter.

WOULD HAVE made, if they DID make it allready, and than they lost it, thats stealing. And by the same logic, you trading your 2nd hand games is no different what so ever.

Yup. The main reason I don't get involved with piracy debates. I have one or two british documentary series and one or two OLD movies on my PC, which occupies less than 5GB of space. Doesn't make a difference, I didn't pay for it. .

But then you get guys with TB upon TB of movies, series, porn (they need to get paid too you know), you name it. I don't think I fall into the totally evil pirate category, since if I like a movie or series I will go out and buy it - I'm one of those people who like to admire a shelf full of colorful DVD cases.

If i bought my game original i paid for it they made their money from me. By trading it for another new title some form of payment is made between the retailer and the publisher. Thus money is still received by the developer. Every pre-own title was once paid for.

Every download too, at one point somebody had to buy it in order to upload it. Atleast as far as the torrent I use.
