Default The other side of games: their making (by South Africans!)

    Hi All,

If you are at all interested in how games are made, then you must check out Dev.Mag, a game making magazine by our local developers. (Edit: Someone pointed out that I should probably be specific and say indie games , although some developers have developed for publishers. But yes, it is not games alla EA...the scale is somewhat smaller.)

Dev.Mag was started 5 years ago by a bunch of guys who wanted to make games for a living, and today, many of them are doing just that. In fact, they become so busy that the magazine came to rest for a while.

But the resting period is over, and Dev.Mag is up and running once again. We will publish articles weekly covering topics on game design, programming, sound and writing for games. Out feature this week is 11 Tips for making a fun platformer by Diorgo Jonkers - the lead designer of The Harvest, the WP7 game that has done so well.

    Hope to see you there

    (PS - tell your friends!)

Yes, DCBloodHound, you are right for the most part, although not all games are independent. The Harvest, for instance, was published under Microsoft, and last year I-Imagine (that's where I work now, but not then) published their Soccer Genius for PlayStation under a publisher. Even so, the Mag is very much in the spirit of indie development, especially considering the budget constraints under which South African developers work.
