Michael Pachter and Gamers' Voice in a war of words

Analyst Michael Pachter and consumer rights group Gamer’s Inc exchange words
Is Michael Pachter correct? Should consumers shoulder the responsibility for purchasing an inferior video game? Do consumers need a rights group to act on their behalf?

Kinda ties in with a discussion we had last year ... regarding gamers buying games based on hype and fanfare.

I actually agree with both groups on this - consumers do need groups like Gamers Voice to carry their interests - at the same time Pachter isn't wrong when he says gamers should shoulder some of the burden. If gamers didn't immediately rush out and buy everything that seems good the minute it launches, developers might take a little more time working on the games. Right now they milk us for all we're worth - and like any good herd of cows, we just stand there and let it happen.

I see it as the game development industry catering to the lowest common denominator. Pretty much the same way the pop music industry works. Hype the crap out of some talentless yet pretty young thing, sell a few million records, rinse, repeat.

The difference is, the pop music industry at least delivers a full product (for what it's worth). No half-mastered tracks or demo versions on the final retail product.
