LOL, I've been playing for about 5 - 6 years and I don't even own an amp (anymore), just using Guitar Rig 3.0 at the moment.

I don't like using effects. Been playing for 4 years now. I bought my first guitar from my friend been playing every day since.

Amps are cool, but yeah for home playing there is alternatives. My amp hardly ever goes over 2 or 3, no real point.

    Is that PC app?

There is a pretty cool iPhone app called Amplitude that is a built in amp. There is a connector you need though.

Depends, effects can be fun, all I need is some distortion and a bit of reverb and I am a happy chappy

Yeah it's a PC app; very, very decent. It has a crapload of preset distortions and FX and you can also set up your own custom ones. Just make sure you get ASIO4ALL as well if you're gonna use it, otherwise you will have hectic delay (and not the intentional kind ). Also an HD sound card helps a lot.
