Default Stay a while and listen .. My ode to the games people will probably never play again

Im no news writer , not by a long shot.
But stay a while and listen,
    to my retro repertoire,
I shall tell you of amazing tales and wonderful places.
This is a walk down memory lane.

Have you ever visited Candle Keep ?
Its from the wonderful fantastic journey of Baldur's Gate.
I recall the scene where your mentor gets killed in the forest and you have to grow strong to defeat the unspeakable foe. So Sayeth the wise Alondo.

Have you ever kicked off your shoes from a long day at school and day dreamed about the perfect job ?
So old this game is that you might need Dos Box to play it ...
From rags to riches is the game where you race a man called Jones ,
Jones in the fast lane was fantastic fun.

Anyone who's every played cops and robbers would have loved Police Quest,
the series was decently hard to be a challenge but not overly so , to be annoying.

On the issue of police , let me move on to bikers .. yeees ..
Not only do I vividly remember biker mice from Mars but my faviorate bike game ..
Full Throttle .. what a pity the sequel never made it to the shelves.
Honerable mentions to Wacky Wheels while we are on this subject ,
I will never forget IronMan Offroad , multiplayer fun like you wouldnt believe.

While on the subject of multiplayer fun , who will ever forget how many keyboards they broke playing Mortal Combat ?

From battling the deepest darkest bowels of hell in Doom , to amazing adventures in space with Space Quest , so many fantastic adventures were to be had.

Who could ever forget the fun of being a cowboy in Outlaws ? Or how great it was to deliver the newspaper in Paperboy ..

Its a pitty that many people today will never bother to experience these , as these would surely look like the bottom of the barrel with poor graphics or bad compatability with new pcs and operating systems ..

I tip my hat to all these games , some of which you might know and some you might never have heard of ..

I wrote down and found screenshots for games that i remember dearly , games that were at the cutting edge of graphics and story telling , ones that made such a impression on me that they all live safely and warm somewhere in the recesses of my mind.

I must say , i recently tried playing Outlaws again , the feeling was lost on me , Best remember the game for what is was and how much fun I had back then.

Anyone out there care to share names of some games you find creeping up on you from time to time ?

Below , a small token to a great era that brought gaming to where it is today.
Heres looking forward to the next 30 years of gaming and I wonder what adventures might be ahead ....

Sigh. It is sad to say goodbye to the titles that we wasted countless hours on. Ironman Offroad was one of my favourites. How 3 of us crowed around one tiny keyboard, using its strange layout to control the Trucks into the nitro canisters and money powerups.

Its scary to think what we have accomplished with 30 years worth of gaming. Can you imagine what the youth of today are going to be saying about the games we love and play in 30 years?

Other older games, newer than those though, that still deserve mention.

    Commandoes
    Desperados
    Crimson Skies
    GTA 1 and 2
    Project IGI
    Legacy of Kain
    The early Tomb Raiders
    Soldier Of Fortune
    Earth Worm Jim
    Army Men
    Theme Hospital
    Metal Gear (not-solid)
    The first sims!
C&C Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert.
    1989 Prince Of Persia
    Sims City
    Unreal and Unreal Tournament.

The singularity is about to explode! Weapons are at maximum.

Ah, the first Sims.. remember getting up at 3 in the morning to play it, day in and day out. Good times. Wanted to say, "don't forget Army Men!", but I see you had it there. Those were the good ol' days of my youth.

    Long live gaming!

Hey ... I'm playing Baldur's Gate at the moment ... I was at Candlekeep a few days ago

As for Mortal Kombat ... if I could possibly get hold of that again (legally) I would definitely play it. Wing Commander I think I will retain my fond memories of - it was revolutionary and ground-breaking in its day, but there was a steady decline from WingCom 2 onwards - and I don't actually think it would be fun to play now.

What a nostalgic post, Kerby !

Sadly, 2-player games will never be as awesome as they were way back then - when we used to have sleepovers where we'd play on the nintendo until early hours of the morning! No save games. No internet.

I often wonder why consoles even bother allowing more than 1 controller when so few games even have splitscreen / 2-player options anymore.

Here are a few of the best 2-player co-op games ever!
