So I've got my hands on SR2 for PC and thought I'd share some of my early impressions real quick.
First off, Pros and Cons:
Pros: It's fun, especially in co-op
It has co-op
Uhhh, that's it methinks
Cons:Framerate is appalling
Game stutters very often making driving really difficult
Driving physics are terrible
Graphics are average at best which begs the question of
...why it runs so poorly
So I've been playing the game co-op so far and gotten about 17% through the main story and I've got to say this has to be one of the worst ports I've ever seen. I'm sorry, GTA IV looks like a perfectly polished diamond compared to this.
First the framerate, in GTA IV I average around 25 to 40 frames per second and the game never becomes unplayable. I SR2 I average around 15 to 30 fps ON MEDIUM. Even with all settings on low it runs at exactly the same clip and all settings on high it still doesn't come close to GTA IV.
Next up is the silly physics handling of the cars, I actually hazard to call it "physics" as the cars handle more like Need For Speed 2 on PSOne than a current gen game, even GTA III will seem like a thousand miles ahead of this games non-existent physics. Now the cars are at least good enough to be some fun, but between the game forgetting that you are accelerating and the constant stutter that has you crashing into everything you are trying to avoid it can be a real effort in frustration.
However even after all those really BIG issues the game still manages to be fun and the co-op is essentially what saves it, as doing the missions with a friend is a real laugh, never mind the huge amount of fun activities to do, which I will admit GTA IV really lacks.
I still think GTA IV is a far more technically competent game, has waaaaaay better driving physics and has a much better story, but for pure insane fun SR2 wins hands down.
