xbox360 - ring of death

Hi guys..
I need some advise , my xbox 360 boots up if left off for a day , 5 minutes into being turned on , it hangs , after that , red ring of death with the error code of thermal overheating.
My xbox is older than 5 years , so the warranty is void.
What am I to do now ?
Ive never opened the xbox to void the warranty on my part ,
but now sit with a xbox I cant use ..
Do I take it back to hifi corp with my slip and ask they send it in for 2/3 months before being told that I have to pay in a few grand to get upgraded ? (Im guessing)
Or do I take it to a fleamarket to get them to fix it for a grand ? (no idea what it costs)
Or do I order spares from the internet and try to fix it myself ?
Surely theres a fan somewhere that needs to get replaced and dust removed from a heatsinc somewhere ?

p.s. already tried blowing it out with a compressor , some dust came out but the problem persists.

its quite easy to fix hey. RROD has to do with cooling and all you need to do is remove the X brackets that hold all the goodies together and replace the with normal screws. Pm me your e-mail address and i will e-mail you the manual i used to fix my xbox with. it takes about 20min to fix once you have all the parts. the only issue i had was finding nylon washers that were small enough but i compensated and used rubber washers which i found at builders warehouse in the bathroom department.....

Powercare (Who does the xbox RROD replacements) will replace an RROD unit which is out of warrenty for R600-R700 (sorry, forgot the exact ammount). Give them a call and find out, at least your replacement comes with a small warrenty, rather then quick fixing your old console every month

Really R700? thats not a bad price at all. BTW my xbox has been running nearly a year now since it RROD'ed.....

Ive just called them.
Its R680 for a replacement on the condition that the console had never been opened (which i havent)

Awesome glad I could help, just hope they don't take too long with the replacement. At least they are 100000000000000 times better then MI digital was.

Really R700? thats not a bad price at all. BTW my xbox has been running nearly a year now since it RROD'ed.....

Ye some people are lucky, but I know from a few people that every time they fix theirs it doesn't last as long as it did the previous time, in the end a fix every week is needed (Hope I'm not jinxing yours). It also depends on how well you did the job.
