Tarryn Van Der Byl

Even though the thread has probably run it's course, I thought I would toss a coin into the fountain too.

Tarryn's writing is good 80% of the time.
Most of the times it has nicely hidden little references, some dark humor, some slights of parody, and all that makes her good articles so damn interesting.

But then there is that other 20%.
It differs from person to person where and when that article shows up. But just like the comment earlier on this page (about the uncle), she sometimes pushes the envelope a whole lot too far.
Every now and then, her articles end up reading as nothing more than the ramblings of a prepubescent mental patient.
And on rare occasion, she manages to be just downright wrong and offensive at it as well.

Ok, fine. Some of her pieces are "opinion" pieces, and others more "journalistic".
The journalistic one's are the types of things one would expect of someone writing for the front page columns. They are generally good, accurate, and still retain all the "Tarryn-ness" one needs for the day/week.

The opinion pieces are mostly garbage though, and imho, would be better kept inside forum threads...

So anyway... as a reader, I have had the entire Love/Hate push/pull relationship with her articles.
And I s'pose nobody in the "office" has a face hard enough, to tell her to keep her opinions off the front page.

That's fair enough criticism, but it's probably worth considering that other people enjoy the opinion stuff.

Also fair.
But we can at least agree that it should be kept off the front-page columns?

That's my only beef with em.
I don't mind them existing at all, if it was on a personal blog, or in a forum post...

Well, no, heh. I'm commissioned to write a weekly editorial. By definition, this is an opinion piece. Many major gaming sites have these, just by the way - Destructoid comes instantly to mind.

It's clearly marked as an opinion column, so if it's not your thing, just don't hit the link. And I should imagine we push out more than enough regular newsy-type stuff to justify the occasional bit of fluff.

Pfft , Tarryn Rocks and anyone who disagree's should watch less of "The Verge" and get a f*cking clue.

Oh yea, and they should invest in research to cure anal retentativeness. :)

+1 to my awesome Necro skillz
