Default Drag racing accident in Pta

    Photos on News24

Other than the family and loved ones of these three Darwinian candidates, who will miss them?

I know this might sound callous and cold, but good riddance. If you really feel the need to race and show off your zeffed up car, then go and do so in a safe and controlled environment. Why must they do so on public roads and endanger the lives of innocent road users?

It is such a waste of life when these idiots take out themselves or innocents. Do they not consider the loved ones they leave behind or are they so self obsessed with proving how "cool" their car is?

    I just don't get it.

The problem being that innocents did get involved.

But by the looks of things, the drivers of the two cars which were suspected to be racing both passed ... in which case we have two less idiots on the road.

I know it is suspected drag racing. And maybe it was all innocent, but seriously, if they were LEGALLY traveling down Voortrekkers at say, what, 60km/h? there is no way the cars would look like that! They were clearly racing down the road at high speed. From what I understand they clobbered a pole and well, the results are plain to see.

I agree with you entirely - don't get me wrong. I was just doing the whole PC speak thing, since they're investigating it. And there's no way a car could end up looking like that unless it was mothering it down the road.

Unless it's an UNO. You can write one of those things off with a solid kick.

As regards to the innocent bit - there were two other cars involved in the accident - the racers apparently pranged into them before aiming for walls and stuff. No word if any of the occupants in those cars were badly injured, but they weren't mentioned, so I rekcon they're okay.

For your cars engine to end up that far from the car after impact - definitely over the speed limit..

as Forrest Gump said "Stupid is, as stupid does".
Movies like Fast & furious glamorize the illegal street racing thing, with every Pretoria west guy thinking he is Vin Diesel.

Horsepower and stupidity just don't mix. Unfortunately stupid people invariably also manage to endanger others too...

There is also racing on Lynwood str...its not scheduled though I think. Damn clowns race through red lights @150kmh (guessing). The traffic cops should camp there a bit. I doubt it takes many 80kmh over the limit fines to fund an office party...

I wonder whether car insurance/life policy will pay in cases like this. I'm guessing no?

i have just one question : who the hell drives that insane in a uno !?

we are practically all guilty of "racing" if you don't keep 100% to the speed limit 24.7.

i would also say that in their case both the parents and the racers carries responsibility for happened. the parents could at least ( if they have not ) told the children ( obviously they still are ) that they should not race and rather keep it to a track that is meant for that. the drivers, well what can i say, seriously, you should know that no "normal" car should be driven like that on a normal stretch of road. there is no 100% guarantee even if you are the best of the best drivers that something can't go wrong in a urban area. it's an urban area for a reason. same as to going 200+ on a free way, one pot hole and you are fubar.

there are enough places where they could have gone safely, quite sure there is a drag racing place here about 1-2hrs drive. can't remember what it's called, but i know a few people who went there for racing with their pimped cars and stuff.

this whole event plays nicely into human nature at it's best; the stupid and the incompetent who would only do something after an outcry or serious enough events followed the initial one.
