I really couldn't care either way for this. Yes, I think Sony are being big kid pricks, but I also think Hotz was stupid.
Why can Sony not simply accept that the deed has been done? And if they ever make a PS4, it will most likely be done there as well. Hotz on the other hand also displayed is utter stupidity. He could have made himself bucket loads of cash if he had gone to Sony and told them he found a way in. Then signed a non disclosure and lived happily ever after.
Did Hotz do wrong? In my uneducated opinion, no. In my eyes, he bought the PS3 and it was his to tinker with as he saw fit. Should he have given up the secret, no, not so much.
This whole thing has gotten so far out of hand. Do I support these vigilantes? Yeah, a little. Maybe it is time that these fat cat corporates realise that their is a public who will not take crap forever and will eventually fight back. I'm waiting for something like this to start happening to other bullies such as Activision, EA, Apple, MS, etc. People are prepared to eat a lot of shit, but everyone has their tipping point and I reckon these attacks against Sony are merely a sign of things to come. But there is a line that these people must be very careful not to cross. Where is that line? I don't know myself, but then again I'm not part of the vigilantes. I know this though, going after employees on a personal level is not merely crossing the line, but obliterating it.
