some cheats give you secrets you wont find in normal game play eg. ufo mode, or lightning minigames in fif2000 or the fzr2000 or hollywood bonus track in nfs2se.

Cheat codes are still around, but they've changed like Dohc mentioned, these days the cheats usually unlock extra tracks(music) and things like that. There aren't many games that come out with God mode these days.

Yea, Those days used to be fun but bit PB, VAC and all the other anti Cheat Technology out , Cheats in a sense have just be come null and void... I still miss "poweroverwhelming" from Starcraft ...

They are presented as such, but are cheat codes to unlock new or additional planes.

LOL I remember startin up Wolf 3D with cheat codes on for some happy SHIFT L adventures !

unless... the new cheat codes of today are the Trainers that pp download and you either press like F1 or F2 to get the code to work etc... i use cheats in the Sims

I love cheats - can't play a game without them. I mean I'm all for playing the game it was meant to be played, but I have to agree with stefan9... story is the real reason I play a game.

Of course... there are games where cheating is just plain useless (sports games, online fps, mmorpg) - anything else is fair game...
