Depends on the series to be completely honest. I will normally watch a series, and then afterwards read the manga to see the differences between the two of them.

Sometimes there are quite a few noticeable differences, but there is a trend sometimes seems to occur with the endings of the anime and the manga. Death Note has it's own ending in the anime, but there is an extra chapter in the manga, which add's some extra information and makes it quite interesting. Other times they will cut the show short due to a lack of source material, or the show was only set to run a certain amount of episodes. I am looking at you, Deadman Wonderland.

Then again they stay true to the story and release a series when it has enough source material and funding to do so. JoJo's bizarre adventure is done like this. Occasionally we are lucky and see the return of a series; Berserk and D.Gray-man... Other times we are not so fortunate, as with HunterxH

Most of the popular ones have been turned into some form of anime, Nuruto, Nisekoi, Berserk, JoJo's InuYasha, One Punch Man, and Card Captor Sakura to name a few. I tend to skip fillers when ever possible, but sometimes it's quite entertaining, One Piece and InuYasha do have fillers but they are not even noticeable as it flows so well with the story.

It is also interesting to note who the publisher is, as very often that can give a hint as to if an anime series would be a very likely option in the future. As an example CLAMP makes some amazing manga and most of it is turned into anime at some stage.

Much of the manga I read has not been turned into a anime, while some of it has. Manhwa on the other hand seldom even get's made into an OVA let alone a series. This is really heart breaking sometimes as God of High School and Tower of God would make amazing shonen and seinen shows, respectively.
