The real target audience for Naruto is not in the EU or US, it's children between the ages of 5 to around 15 that will watch it in Japan. I think it's longevity has to do with a deal that was most likely struck with Shonen Jump magazine to produce X amount of episodes, if the ratings are good. Additionally, Japan does not care what everyone else thinks, seriously. If it does well in Japan then it is labelled as a success. If it does well in other countries it's a bonus but their target audience is very close to home.

As for the manga, I completed Naruto but never got into Boruto . I feel that Boruto is riding on the coattails of Naruto, but we shall see what the future brings. As of right now, there are dozens of other good shows to watch.
