Thread: Local WoW server a possibility?

    Just have a few questions?

    1 ) You guys remember when the russian servers went live they offered all the russian players the chance to migrate all their characters for free? SO shouldnt they do that for us too? Reason why I am asking is I've got quite a few lvl 80 chars and other alts and cant spend R2000+ tranfering all of them over.

    2) Secondly, the pvp - I live for pvp. How would that work precisely? Seeing as different realms (different servers) play against eachother? Wont we be able to like play with 30-70ms ping and they with their normal ping? (Seeing as the world is run on our local servers and our gaming server just downloads the data from the other players? and visa versa? then they just sinc the player data to get a accurate reading of coordinates, hp, mana etc?) OR are there fixed battleground servers located in europe?

    Sorry I might sound like a noob here but really confused as to how it would work? I'll try to rephrase my 2nd question if you guys dont quite understand what I mean looooool.

    In this economic crunch, few people can afford to pay for play.
    Private server emulators are LEGAL - no matter what anyone says!
    Just as long as you the server owner do not alter the game client itself you are fine! I hosted a private WoW server for 4 years until I could not afford the costs anymore due to a heart attack and job loss! There are literally thousands of privately run WoW servers out there and as you say with ~1000 players online!

    Yes, you WILL get a few tiny bugs in the game because emulators are written in Java, but what the heck, its free right?

    I am now once again running a FREE Lineage II server - with a LEGAL L2J server pack!

    What I can't stand about private servers:

    * They're laggy.
    * 1000 people in World of Warcraft, for example, isn't very much at all. Considering players are split between Alliance and Horde, eish...
    * The large majority of people who run private servers alter drop rates etc, which affects the balance of the game.
    * As you mentioned...the bugs.

    If a private server is laggy, it is more than likely someone who is running it from his PC at home, especially if in SA!

    My servers are dedicated Xeon Dual Core with 4 Gigs RAM on a T1 connection to the USA and EU backbones so not laggy at all - even if you play from here with a ping of 350+! Our USA and Europpean players of course have a ping of less than 20 to the server! (which makes me sick btw)

    Yes, private server owners do amend the rates and you can find servers with rates from 3x to 5000x! There are many game voting sites where you can find all these servers listed and make a choicxe from there.
    I have 2 servers: a 5x crafting PVE (Person vs Enviorenment) and a 15x PVP (Person vs Person) which for Lineage II are good rates!
    I agree with you that very hgh rate servers suck big time, but I see these as an opportunity for players with little time to play. They then also add GM Shops with everything included as this basically hides the bugs as the player then has no need to do a quest for items. A good private server admin, will do his best to FIX the bugs!

    I'm sure Blizzard made WoW so that every second retard could make his own server. If you can't pay then go play something else. It's not that hard to understand really.

    Well I think it is more of a case of people who are of the opinion that if you bought the game, you should not have to pay to play it too!

    Then as there are more people world wide who play MMO's for free, must mean that the majority of people are retards? hmmmm

    At least your comment proves that 'retail therapy' seems to be alive and well

    And how many people can your server handle at once?

    The rate amendment is exactly what I hate. It messes up the balance of the game unfortunately. It's like using cheat codes - it makes a game a lot more boring much more quickly.

    I pay to play because of updates, bug fixes and new content. As long as Blizzard keeps up their good work I will continue to pay my subs as well as hoping that they get a way to shut down all the illegal servers.

    Yes, Blizzard is an awesome company until they just yank your account without you having done anything wrong.

    I got my account suspended last night under suspicion of online trading / powerleveling and my account has NEVER been hacked and I have never bought gold in all the three years of playing the game.

    Only thing I do is use a proxy service to improve my ping and wasap, 72 hour suspension. I'm disgusted.

    Have you recently sold something on the auction house for a hugely over-inflated price or something similar?
