The British Royal Family serves a purpose though, that of continuity and symbolism. A lot of people go on about Royal Families et al having no place in the modern era, but these are usually the same people who seem to assume that they still play a role in ruling the country - the UK is a fully fledged democracy, and the royals are a symbol, nothing more.
That being said, I didn't pay attention to the wedding - has nothing to do with me, although from the point of view of most of Britain they're probably hoping and praying that Will and Kate's wedding will wash away some of the recent specters of the past - seeing as how quite a few of the recent marriages have flopped - Charles and Diana's was only the most publicised.
As Tsar said - it's a bit of a straw man, but there needs to be something to celebrate - the world's been getting a lot of bad news lately.
