Default World of Warcraft Achievements: Brilliance or Bust?

What Blizzard has done right and wrong with its in-game achievement system.

The raid achievements are the new indicator of skill so to speak... If you see someone that has the Immortal/Undying title you realise they've done a full naxx run without anyone dying. The general achievements are to keep players busy (ie: Pest control - kill a list of critters)

If the achievement points could be used for rewards people would strive more to do them

It's just another grind element to have some sort of ePeen / Brag factor, catering towards the hardcore to further discriminate against the poor little ones.

I have seen it in GW too.

Quite soon you will see reqs pop up for raids or certain farms, etc.

It's basically used as a measure to discern between the newbs and hardcores.

This type of change / update is known as a carrot. It will keep people going and tie them over for a while.
What the mind can conceive, it can achieve.

Why would you play the game if not for the epeen factor. If it is having the best gear from the hardest bosses or the title that means diddley squat as long as you enjoy chasing the carrot then do so. 11.5 million people can't be wrong after all.

If your main goal is to get all the achievements in WoW, you have no life...
