L.A. Noire causes consoles to overheat - Rockstar, Sony respond

Software other than drivers cannot cause overheating. Software can put the GPU under maximum load which is why your suppose to have sufficient cooling and airflow. If your PS3/360 dies and you haven't been physically abusing it, you can safely point your finger at MS/Sony.

Oh no, what a flop. What is this supposed ''workaround'' they're talking of? If its a patch of some sort.... urgh, probably a large one too, eating up bandwidth.

Sad that such an awesome game has a major problem like this. Hopefully the fix works properly. On a side note, typical of horrid consoles :D!

Its entirely possible that a patch can resolve the problem..
They can force the graphics card to do less (less strain but graphics might suffer)
Or they can do something about the fan speeds ?(possible for example on PC where you can set your idle and load fan speed in ATI tools)
They can also find that somewhere in the game there might be something that doesnt unload from memory correctly , eating up more processing power and then making the cpu over heat due to threads not stopping..

I am ofcourse guessing here , I am by no means a ps3 programmer , hope they can fix this with a patch.

It not affecting all consoles just a few, so it might be aged machines, also in recent expierence peopl play so little with thier consoles that it doesnt heat up in the confined that house them that when they eventually start using them more the console heats ups alot and pack ups.

You can blame the game developer if you wnt but it will only bee cause they made the game use more of the console proceesing strength.

This is unfortunate. But I expected a few hick-ups with such a massive game (not shooting it down, in fact, it is next on my purchases list). These okes make massive games, there is bound to be some small things that were overlooked. Hopefully they can fix it soon.
