I will put up my current rig up and then put up what I am thinking of buying..
CURRENT RIG
Intel D946GZIS MOB
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.1
4 Gig DDR2
XFX Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT - (keeping)
450W power supply (no-name brand)
MY NEW RIG - Nothing set in stone I am looking to get my upgrade towards the end of the year with my bonus
Asus Crosshair 4 (iV) Formula - Republic of Game
Amd socket AM3 Phenom2 x6 - Hexa/6-Core 1055T
OCZ DDR3 PC3-1333 MHz /Gold Edition / Triple Channel Kit / 6GB
(Power supply to go here)
I am looking for an upgrade to keep me going for the next couple years as my current rig has lasted 5 years. I upgraded to my 9600 GT about 2-3 years ago so it should keep up for a little while longer..
Any help would be appreciated and any questions please ask.

Atm you could get a new board, but you will be getting in just before a major update to the AMD line up.
You will also notice that the hexa-core is not much faster than quad-core AMDs as they are not optimised in most games.
You will be able to use the new chips on AM3 boards, but my prediction is that they won't be maximised on such.

At your budget you should evenly distribute the items, going for a high-end motherboard is not really something you need. I would suggest something like the following:
- Motherboard - Asus P8P67 PRO Rev.3 - Link
- CPU - Core i5 2500k Sandy Bridge - Link
- RAM - Corsair XMS3 2x4GB 1600Mhz - Link
- PSU - Corsair GS600 600w - Link
For the above, you would pay - R5900

no need to spend a huge amount of money to have a really good rig, its all about smart choices really

Thanks very much for the input guys I really appreciate it!
That is why I said I will be getting my upgrade towards the end of the year when I get my bonus. Surely the AMD update should have happened by then.
Games that I play range from FP Shooters, Racing games, MMO and RPG's so I do play a little of everything..
The reason I am not too worried about the graphics card ATM is that a friend of mine just upgraded his pc to an i7 with a decent MoB and Ram and he has the same card as me and his machine runs 100% (to me that is) Ja sure with the new games coming out I might not be able to run everything on AAx32 but the games still look good and run smoothly...

DX 11 is not available on those cards though. That is my main problem, even if they run smoothly, it will not look nice on dx11 games.
