Thread: Kinect + RPG's. Who thinks this could work?

Default Kinect + RPG's. Who thinks this could work?

After owning a Kinect for about 3 months I have come to terms with the limitations of the technology that the PS Move and WiiMote do not suffer from. Although I'm excited for Child of Eden I still think that shooters are just not perfectly suited for the tech. Given the slowish nature of RPG gameplay I think Kinect would be perfect, issuing commands with hand swipes, voice commands for spell selection and arm movements to carry out sequences to maximise the power of magic etc. Anyway What do you think?

You've got a good idea there and I would love to play a Kinect RPG. One will look so crazy standing there in front of the tv and saying weird spells and issuing commands but hell it should be fun. I'm currently playing Dragon Age and I can imagine playing something similar using the Kinect.

I've got a feeling that the use of the Kinect technology will improve and with it the games that we'll play. But yes, a Kinect RPG sounds great! (I'm also looking forward to that Kinect horror game. Now that can be awesome if they do it well)

I think the response time is WAY too slow for much, so personally I prefer the Move

RPG games could work really well for Kinect but I've been thinking how about a RTS game? Think about it, use your hands to scroll maps and issue commands to your troops etc. Give me a game similar to Warcraft or Starcraft for Kinect and I'll be a pig in mud

On the point of Kinect, I'm really hoping E3 has something new to show us. At the moment we have this great hardware and not really any game that appeals to me (or any hardcore gamer for that matter)

I think this is mostly in the way that it's been used so far and that the technology will improve. For instance look how well Kinect Sports responds now. I don't know if it's because of the latest update but it works well. I'm hoping that the lag will get less with each new game being released.

i think if they can match up the game to the hardware, by all means go for it. I though all games other that sport games would suck. I couldn't have been more wrong. Look at games like No More Heroes and Madworld.

RPG on the Kinect doesn't sound like a bad idea. People expecting to stand and play through the slow pace of a RPG would have a surprise, though.
    That's what she said.

I know its a long shot But i'd like to see strong japanese support for kinect. I think with the creative capacity of japanese devs we could really see something spectacular come from a kinect title.

    You mean like this?

That's WoW played with Kinect . And watch the "Technical" bit later in the clip to see how the emulate all the keyboard buttons with movements.

And looking at what they did there with the movements and camera rotation [lean forward = move forward , lean backward = backward , use left hand to rotate camera ] , i see little reason why they can't do it with a FPS . They just need to figure out a way to emulate a "gun trigger" without having to wave your arms around. However in the case of WoW up there, they emulate the 1-9 keys by having you pointing your arms in a direction , like a clock [i.e. point up = 1 , left = 2 , right = 3 ] etc, which i think is a pretty good way to doing it.

I don't know :/ it sounds like a great idea but the only problem is...will it stick? Will most people enjoy it? I personally prefer to play games that I've been looking forward to with a controller cuz I don't like having to stand up and move around to play a game but it does sound like a cool idea, no doubt.
