I waited for a box of goodies from my brother in the UK for 7 weeks (if I remember correctly) and I had to pay like R600 odd rand to customs ........ this after he paid 80 pounds for it to be next day delivery

well it depends on whether customs feels like taxing. i got taxed about 10% of the value when buying from the virgin islands, but customs taxed me on something that came from ocean shores but said it came from the virgin islands. i took customs on about this complaining that i hadn't been taxed on various things. i was told that "they never make a mistake and that you can't get anything for free" i.e. you are supposed to get taxed on everything that comes into SA. but as a lot of my stuff from overseas was just posted in my box you never know. i do know that since i complained one of my orders hasn't arrived (and i never lost anything before), paranoid well of course. but to answer your question: hope you don't get caught by customs and think about 10% of the value that has to be declared on the customs sheet.
