Age of Conan going hybrid F2P/premium
I was waiting for this...
Funcom has announced that it will premier a new hybrid F2P/premium revenue model for Age of Conan beginning this summer. In addition, a new digital edition will debut called "Age of Conan: Unrated". Funcom has published both a general FAQ about the move as well as a comparison chart that highlights the differences between the free and paid versions.

LOL, so was I, all MMO's resort to F2P when they start failing, and quite frankly Age of Conan has been failing for a while now..

I might start playing AOC again now that it's going F2P. Hopefully all the bugs and performance issues are a thing of the past.

The engine used imho is still at the same (maybe a little less) shitty state it was at beta, launch, year later and now since I've played it. If only they had decent, well tested, well optimized mostly bug free IP/Game I would gladly return, but each time I retest at what stage they are, it's still same issues like 5FPS in that stone city looking N and then looking S you get 100 magically.
That also brings to mind that their implementation of clipping is totally fubar. standing in tortage I can't see the outside, but they still render it and something of N 5-10FPS and S or E you get 100+.
Gah that thing is terrible. Only good parts is ERPG/RP ingame.
I can't see how SecretWorld or "remake" of AO be any different or great after this crappy "thing". Still nothing can be worse than MortalOnline. That was a whole new level of fail...

A lot of MMO's have been going over to the F2P model, mainly because it helps revitalize the game as well as and this is more important for the devs, the game actually becomes more profitable than what it was at launch.
Check LOTRO, their profits climbed 600% after it went F2P.
