Factor in that this was Crytek's first real console outing since Farcry which had Ubisoft devs involved.

Well just think of it as this way, with the new wii 2 on the way, and if microsoft is developing a new xbox, sony has to keep up.
But i agree, that the project of the ps3 isnt really feasible anymore since anyone can now crack it without doing any hardware modifications, which makes it easier than the xbox.
Just hope they make huuuuuge changes on the Ps4, and not just a few features just to cover up their security issue.

Like I said the recent security breach is the only viable reason to replace the ps3 so early in its cycle. Considering how much development of the PS3 and its fancy cpu set sony back heads must be rolling.

This article only says that they are working on a new Playstation... but that should be obvious don't you think??? Not like the PS3 developers got fired or stopped working after the PS3 was released, they obviously started working on a new idea.

I remember reading about the PS3's development for years before they actually released it, so this would be the same thing.. don't expect the console to hit the shelves in the next year or two...

And whatever console comes out next, can only equal the PS3... what is MS and 'Non-contendo' gonna do, bring out a new console with a Blu-Ray drive? Bring out a similar product with better hardware? Come on, that's not next-gen, that's called an upgrade...

Unless Microsoft tries some stupid BS and use another experimental optical technology like HD-DVD

They only use separate dev teams these days to create games for different generations ie one team works on the current gen version and another team on the previous gen version. eg splinter cell DA was made ubisoft montreal on xbox360/ps3 but ubisoft shanghai made ps2/xbox versions, the only time another dev team is used with a current gen title is when they have to port it to the other system eg Bioshock was made by 2k boston/irrational but ported to ps3 by 2k marin or how people can fly had to port gears to pc. using 2 dev teams to create the same game for seperate curent gen systems is not feasible.

PC stayed the same? How do you figure? You upgrade Hardware ever 2 to 3 years (if you wait as long as possible) new OS comes out ever couple of years also. Compare Win7 to Win98 or even WinXP and it is FAR from the same.

I read that article last night...luckily we still have a year or 2 left with current gen consoles. Ahhh...technology...it will always find a way to make your wallet suffer...

Sorry, just my 2cents. ... "Troll troll troll troll"

Just ON the actual article I'm looking forward to the future in gaming. 10 years ago we were till playing PS1 games. Look at where we are now? Where will we be in 10 years from now? I'm just super happy that the gaming industry isn't like the South African broadband industry. You actually have good choices. "I'm tired of Eskom's service! I am moving my account over too.... Oh, right..."

It's a fun future to look forward to - Game wise
