This doesn't look like a good move on EA's part
especially since quite a bit of users are not impressed with EA's past DRM attempts

But this might come back to bite them in the ass...
True. I suspect though that the extra 25% (I think) cut that steam takes won't cover the loss in sales. People don't want more of these platforms. I had an opportunity to buy AoE3 at close to nothing on the Microsoft sale system...didn't take it though because I don't want another platform.

Yeah...it all comes down to coins...that 25% that they had to hand over to Steam can (if accumulated) bring them some solid money. (Every 4 games that they now sell, they have actually sold and got the money for 5 (in comparison with how they sell on Steam). When we are talking about thousands of units, I think this will make a difference.

I get the feeling that I won't be the only one who turns my back on EA-published games if this is their idea of how to win customers over.
I am sure that you will not be the only one. I think that they will initially lose a lot of customers, but that their numbers will grow again pending some good title releases.

But I do suspect that this will not last long.
    That's what she said.

Indeed. I very vividly remember EA's past exploits into forced bloatware...

Also, why do I want another service clogging up my resources. Of course, I could always quit the one before launching the other, but ...

I'd be surprised if EA doesn't get any backlash from users because of this decision.
They will be getting bumloads of said backlash. I blatantly REFUSE to have another distribution platform running on my PC for the sake of 1 or 2 games I ever play from EA.
Quitting Steam really isn't an option for me (and most others) at this point. What? Is Origin suddenly going to support all of my already-owned Steam-games as well?!

Pretty much sums up how I feel, except I might not settle for "fucking good". Forcing me to install yet another platform for one single developer, said game better be CHANGING THE WAY THE UNIVERSE WORKS!

Using Steam = 1000's of games available for purchase and play.
Using Origin = 10's of games available for purchase and play.

The disconnect is quite huge, and even if I owned and still played every single EA game ever made (minus the re-hash sports titles) it would STILL not make an entirely separate platform worthwhile...

It most definitely will come back. To bite. Bite hard. In SEVERAL soft spots...

You suspect wrong. EA is knobheaded about these things. They will force this on every single game and in the process allienate a very large portion of their customers.
They will not back down from this one, I can assure you that they will ride it right up to the point of customer's submitting or leaving altogether.
I would prefer at this point that EA rather roll over and die of bankruptcy, and I can only pray to some unknown gaming deity that this does in fact, occur as speedily as possible.

Look its a new system and it hasnt been online for more than month, after awhile they will offer specials and other cool offers (dlc) just like steam does. But if you really hate it that much u dont have use it, I myself dont really care what program i use. But one thing i do know is that i love battlefield games and orgin offers them and steam doesnt!

Games, I'll happily support. Games served to me on a platter of shit? Erm, it's fine, thanks. More money I get to save, the way I see it.
