    Default GTX560 or 6870HD

Hi, currently running a quad core intel Q... I have no idea actually. Its 2.83 Ghz per core 4 gigs ddr3 1333 mhz. i'm planning to upgrade my gfx card (9600 gt 1 gig). looking to spend not much more than R2000.00

I was looking at the GTX 560 or HD6870 or something along those lines. Any ideas?

well i can only offer you my perspective, i own a HD 6870

From what i have experienced from the 6870 has been absolute pure bliss, this card comes very close to the 5870 in terms of performance, its right up there with the 5870, even better when you crossfire two 6870's you be better than two 5870, by a small margin but still in terms of price difference, its pretty much a steal

Now the GTX 560 is an excellent card as is the Ti version which i slightly better, IMO i would go for the one that offers the better price, neither card is going to "smoke" the other so IMO its gonna come down to which is cheaper, AMD in this regard is usually spot on.

Do some research and reviews, nowdays its not just performance but also a fair price point

and the 6870 doesn't make it very far up this list either:

That is a passmark test... yeah you can look at it, but you have to look at a few to really decide.

Case in point, the 6990 is well down the list... for a dual card that is quite poor.

Most benches i have seen say the two cards are very much on par with Frames/s. Again the nvidia seems to have better mins and average with the AMD getting better maxs. Of the two, AMD or nVidia, nvidia is the better choice atm if the pricing/performance is equal. Better drivers, better min/ave FPS, physx, etc.

Spend a few bucks more and get the Ti version. Very impressive card!

+1 It's only like R200-300 more if you shop around.

I would also take the Ti Version

else if you cant take that then get the HD 6870, excellent price point and more than good enough for max detail at 1900 x 1200 at the very least

Yes, you may see a change

I predict cards like the 5870 to come down in price, however it will still be more than a 6870, if it were to be made less than the 6870 it would make the card redundant. What you could expect is BOTH the 6870 and the 5870 drop in price....
