Looking at how badly Sony is currently doing, I wonder how much more financial loss they can take over the PS3 - Lets hope the PS3 Slim (if it ever comes out) will keep Sony above water level
i still reckon they wont drop the price for the PS3 even if the slim line comes out.... which makes me a little dissapointed in sony as they dont take into consideration on whats going on Financially in todays world

After being a firm Xbox supporter, i am now changing to supporting the PS3.

Apart from the fact that i can buy in rands from the playstation store and not like Xbox live, where i even have to fake an address because of the fact that MS$ sell in a countrey without supporting it like other countries in the world, there are numerous reasons:

    a) My boy insists the graphics are better
b)I can use other supplier's peripherals without being tied into expensive locked in equipment. The Xbox hard drive and wireless are prime examples. To upgrade my 20gb hard drive on Xbox would cost me over a R1000 for a 120gbyte drive where Tetrabyte drives cost less.
    c) Because of the drive restrictions and slow internet in RSA, I now get all my demos on the PS3.
    d) I can backi up my PS3 to a normal USB drive without having to purchase more Xbox specific gear.
    e) Internet access using the PS3 is excellent.
    f) I do not have to return an RROD Xbox every year, the PS3 is still the original one@!

This is a fair point. It would be better if Live were supported in SA. But I don't make use of it at the moment so it doesn't bother me too much.

No it isn't. In the beginning the Xbox was better due to Developers needing to get used to developing for the PS3. These days they exactly the same. Or at least I can't tell the difference. Ask your boy to provide proof of his claims.

Well gosh darnit, I didn't know that $ony makes it so easy to upgrade their hard drives………… oh wait, they don’t. They don't even supply you with upgrade possiblities like Micro$oft does. You're stuck with 40GB or 80GB. You can always upgrade your PS3 yourself by taking it apart, voiding your warrenty In the process, and installing a bigger drive. But then you can do the same for the Xbox.

Also both consoles use 2.5 inch drives (the ones that go into laptops) not 3.5 inch drives (normal sized PC ones). Thus they are more expensive. A 500GB 2.5 costs about the same as a 1TB 3.5……. just FYI.

Wireless would be a nice to have built into my Xbox, but then I bought mine cause it was within my price range. A couple of months later I managed to pick up the official wireless dongle for the Xbox at half price. So in the end it didn't matter for me.

What's the biggest drive you get with the PS3? 80GB? What's availible to Xbox users? 120GB. Yip……. drive restrictions are quite apparent.

As for slow internet….. it's slow whether you have a PS3 or an Xbox. But then Xbox has the edge since all games are hosted by other players online and not on servers based in Europe……. actually have they put PS3 servers in SA yet? If they have then the PS3 would be slightly better since you don't need a player with a 4Mb line to host a game.

Can't the Xbox do the same? I'm honestly asking here cause I would think so…..

My first Xbox is a Jasper so I don't/won't have to worry about. But FYI have you ever heard of YLOD (yellow light of death) on the PS3? You chances of seeing it are extremely slim, but the chance is still there. Maestro on the MyBB forums has three PS3s with YLOD needing to be fixed. Also has a couple of PS3s waiting for BluRay lasers that are broken….. he has to import them tho……. takes a while

BTW, thanks I needed a good fanboi scuffle to get the day done.

If you gonna be a fanboi then do it properly
Changing your PS3 HDD doesn't void your warranty and its even in the manual. So get your facts straight before you start the bashing.
As for the whole internet thing, I've played Resistance 1 and 2 online as well as KZ2 and the lag was barely noticeable compared to COD4 which is P2P like on the 360.
Oh and about YLOD, mostly affects launch models and early 40GB models, we all know nothing is built to last but RROD numbers are just disgusting

WOW Go Toxin I think you just covered almost every aspect of what this Thread has been trying to in the past 5 months with everyone arguing over which is better.... If I knew more about the Xbox.... then i dont think I could have said that reply any better nice one dude

Oh and seeing as you know alot more than some of us not pointing at myself lol.... i wanted to know ok so you say the hard drives are 2.5" the same size as the ones you find in your laptops.... would u in ur own defence suggest going out and buying a nice fat sized hard drive just for the lets say the PS3 even after the warranty has expired or would u say that getting a new console entirely is the best option????

Well a person would actually have to have a PS3 to know this. And all the sites I went to, to "research" drive replacement didn't state this. So I blame my own ignorance. Point conseded.

BTW, since your knowledge over consoles pwns my 2 month knowledge I've gained since I bought my Xbox......... what Micro$oft's take on HDD replacement?

How barely noticable? Also are the servers locally based yet? Cause iirc what I said was:

I have never played with any console online as of yet. But in my experiance from playing PC online is local servers > int servers. Unless console games are coded better for online play, playing on an int server will be worse off lag wise. So if they have placed some local servers then online gaming with the PS3 would be much better and easier.

The way ernstn was talking you'd think that the PS3 was indestructable. Of course the numbers are disgusting. Didn't say they they weren't. Hell, those numbers were the reason I didn't buy an Xbox till two months ago.

RROD won't be a problem for me.

Totally get a new HDD. Hell for the price of a new PS3 you could buy 10 new 500GB 2.5 inch drives.

I actually read the PS3 manual now, and it's piss easy to upgrade your PS3.

Oh ok i see because if i stand corrected i still have another 1yr or so warranty on my PS3 so i wouldnt wanna fsck it up should i replace the HDD and then PS turn around and say no they refuse to fix it becoz of me changing hardware etc....
