Blown away by the PS3 as I am this evening, I still think all of the current consoles have games that are well worth playing.

Just posted this question as a new thread (http://mygaming.co.za/forum/showthre...Box-360-or-PS3) But only saw this discussion going on now! Seriously though, what is better for BOTH gaming and multimedia purposes-
    Xbox 360 or PS3?

Either or. Xbox is probably a bit easier to setup as a media player/center, but the PS3 has the Blu-ray advantage, which is only beneficial if you own a HD screen. As for gaming, both platforms have 90% of the same titles, except for a few exclusive titles on each console. This should probably be your deciding factor over and above everything else, if you are going use it for primarily gaming.

As a PS3 owner, I can honestly say that games like Unchartered, Heavy Rain, Little Big Planet are really awesome. But make no mistake, Xbox also has it's blockbusters, fable, Alan Wake, Halo spring to mind. So decide which you would prefer and be happy in whichever way you go, as they are both superb investments.

    +10

I have both consoles but mostly play Xbox and keep my PS3 for exlusives or titles that get a little extra something something on PS3 (Batman AA's Joker Maps).

Like some of the other said, Xbox is a breeze to set up and together with a win7 pc you will be steaming music and movies to the xbox in no time flat. The PS3 is a bit more complicated in the interface department and can be fussy. The prepherials (Controllers and such) is also a tad more expensive than their Xbox counterparts, except for Move which is way cheaper than Kinetic.

Oh and achievements beats the snot out of PS's boring trophies.

What I'm interested in is which one of the two boast the biggest online community in SA, we have a small gaming community and finding local games to play is crucial if you want to fully enjoy your online experience. The bigger the numbers the easier it is to jump into a local online game. Something to consider I would think.

Yes the net code on both consoles are awesome but there's no denying that a local game is a heap load better than playing international.

Anyone know of numbers xbox vs PS in SA?

I don't know of any numbers but I would think Xbox is bigger based puresly on the fact that it was released close on a year before the PS3. But if you look on the net for site then you will find loads of pages for Xbox/PS3 gamers is SA. I'm a PS3 gamer so I like to keep tabs here on My Gaming or here for PS3: http://www.ps3za.co.za/forum/index.php

Its a tough one, there are more xbox360 owners but many wont shell out the extra R450 to R600 per year for xbox live while every PS3 owner has free access to the PSN and online gaming.
