    Default Necro-threading

So it was pointed out to me that I might have done the Necro thing, which I had
    to Google first.

I agree with the Highdefdigest Summary given here, and pretty much aligns with This here Jurisdiction

Since we are our own community, thought I`d open it for discussion

Now if it was something to start a fight with I understand but I don't see how bringing old threads (the ones w/o arguments in it) is "problematic"

Most of the time people point others to old threads anyhow so they are saving their own skin IMO

That is just one example, but there are plenty of instances of bringing up a dormant thread which do not have any malicious intent. There are a few instances where I do agree, such as the current one that was about Paramount announcements from April 2007, before they went exclusive and now over to exclusive. It makes threads very misleading, of course. But in general, I don't think such a hard stance needs to be taken.

Don't think there's anything wrong with bumping a thread where there's still something left to discuss, instead of starting a new thread. Hey?

I have found the majority (or vocal minority) on this forum seem to have no idea what necro-threading is.

Accusations fly around for posting in a thread that is just over a week old. Pathetic really. I have voiced my opinion before.

I would be highly disgusted if that is the case.

I showed her this thread personally, it is my own thread, plus the last post is just over one week old to boot. If that is referred to as necroing then that rather shows poor inactivity for MyGaming than anything else.

Typically a necro occurs if the threads last activity is greater than one year. Learn your facts

Beside the above misconception of post bumping, new people on forums take time to adapt. People are not automatically born with internet forum behavior etiquette. Closed societies have only proven to fall and collapse. I believe you yourself (MissM) commented that regarding MyBroadband.

Edit (Provide Link): "Necroposting" (also called "necrobumping" or "gravedigging"), occurs when a forum thread that has been inactive for a long time, typically years, is bumped by a reader, usually in response to what he inadvertently believes to be an ongoing discussion, perhaps coming from a web search rather than from within the forum.

To be honest it was during the big competition and those threads were from 2008.

My reply wasn't aimed at you (again) in particular.

I wrote the above and came to the realisation I had previously voiced my opinion on the subject, thereby editing my post to quote it.

I don't have a problem with a thread necro as long as the post is informative or brings something new to the table. Necro-ing a thread with posts like "I agree", "What he said" and so on irritate the crap out of me.

More so if the thread is like a year old and I only realise it after the 2nd or 3rd page of reading it.......
