Point granted on the RTS front, but playing FPS on console is perfectly fine (the success of the CoD franchise on console shows just how well these titles are doing on that platform), nor is there a problem with RPG's (not talking about BG2 type RPG's since they are all but dead).

Cover shooters on PC is also not a problem. Gears of War was stellar, allowing PC owners to enjoy console-y games on their PC when they might want to play it but might not have access to it otherwise.

My point is we shouldn't be forcing genres onto specific platforms, it creates a needless divide for gamers. I love having the option of choosing which platform I would like to play my games on.

COD they starting to ruined as more focused on console type players aka no Dedicated servers or proper lan functions any more. And it not just piracy to blame look at steam shows there is a market, it just more price sensitive.

I know that's a bad example for quality, but my point there wasn't about good FPS games it was that if they didn't work on consoles then they wouldn't sell so well.

I expect BF3 console sales to lead the PC even though it's lead platform.

That's precisely the point I had all along. RPG's were greatly simplified (gameplay-wise and scope-wise) to make them "multi-platform", and first person. Some people liked it and some committees and focus groups decided that should be the new "Next-Gen" thing. Nowadays you can't find any more proper RPG's and the excuse is that there is no market. The same thing happened to adventure games, they said there was no demand for them.

Fortunately, that passed and we now have adventure games again (Sam & Max, Back to the Future etc.) Not many but at least some. Those are also doing pretty well on Steam last I heard. I think you misunderstoond me there, I'm not against having choices, I'm very much for it. The problem is there isn't any choice, games are made so they work on consoles and PC's and it ends up being a Jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none situation. There's not really any options for those who enjoy a good, rewarding gameplay experience that you can really sink your teeth into.
