Well, I did buy Assassin's Creed II through Steam but I ended up cracking it because of the server instability after it was launched. I'm no pirate but as a legit buyer who wants to support the platform and developer, when I end up cracking games I purchased it plants that seed of doubt in my mind, "am a fool for paying for this?".
So I agree. I think the DRM is self-defeating, punishing the customers to the extreme and letting the pirates wave their flag higher than ever.
if by counting driving customers away then yes it's a success
Play games, not platforms
I really don't get it, I can use the argument of 'pirates have no issues while customers suffer' for almost any DRM, but nowhere is it as fitting as with this DRM scheme. There is literally not a single saving point for this DRM. It just sucks, period, and pirates literally have no worries at all. How is this even remotely a success?
For piracy related issues, it might work. What they didn't think about is that every country that is not USA, Japan or Western Europe has some form of "always on" internet. That will force those affected to rather get a cracked version. Which makes the whole "Ubisoft 1 - Piracy 0" turn to "Ubisoft 1 - Piracy 1"
That's what she said.

When are these people going to get it, nothing works against piracy and DRM of any sort only makes it harder for legit buyers to play games. I have always bought legit copies but this is making me seriously consider just pirating it instead.
Less piracy can also be interpreted as something being just too crap to even bother. I bet if looking only at the popular titles piracy is still huge.
