Default Battlefield 3 online pass "probable"

Battlefield 3 will probably require an online pass

Discuss Battlefield 3's online pass in the forums

There was bound to be some sort of online pass. Doesn't bother me either, already got my pre-order in, so I'll have one

I don't see the issue here. This is how all online multiplayer games have always worked. You use your key to register an account and voila, you play online. Where is the news in that?

Or am I missing something here?

Makes sense seeming gaming is edging that way with digital distribution. You can't trade or sell digital copies that aware of, so putting the online pass on retail boxed versions is pretty much the same thing.

I must be missing it too, unless this is referring to consoles, which would then make sense actually.

buying it new so does not bother me.

will only make console owners pissy if they buy second hand

    Play games, not platforms

well if you bought Bf2 retail version, you can still sell it second hand and the dude/dudette buying it can register a new account and play. EA doesn't get that sale, but just a new player. So this way they guarantee everyone playing has bought a brand spanking new copy. Kills the second hand gaming market. I mostly buy new games and especially via steam so not really a issue.

This is how battlefield bad company 2 worked, right?

I guess with such an anticipated release all sorts of news is to be expected.

I thought my CD key is automatically assigned to my EA account. And if not, then that was just plain stupid from EA to not have done some from the get go.
