Domains are sold on a first-come-first-serve basis. The problem comes in when these "campers" purchase a domain with no intention to use it, only to pawn it off to the highest bidder. Its extremely unethical and illegal in SA afaik (and, as a web designer, effing annoying!)

In this case the domain was purchased before the original Wii came out. The campers got lucky

It's like a while ago, www.modernwarefare3.com was redirecting to http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield3, and www.ps3.co.za still redirects to http://www.xbox.com

At least this one is actually an active blog, and whoever registered the domain did so years ago without having any idea that Nintendo would release something called WiiU, or even Wii, so seems like it's really just a coincidence...

But it's crazy that the companies don't check before hand if the website they want is available!

The guy registered the domain long before the Nintendo's console name was announced.
The only grounds they might have to sue him is due to the fact that they registered the trademark before him.
Yet he registred the domain years before the trademark registration so ..
    geez ..

I am going to enjoy watching this one play out.

Unfortunately a domain is not a trademark. He will most likely lose the case. Why people do this, I do not know.
