No, watching is completely free to anyone. The compendium, which is freakin' awesome btw, is a separate item you use to make your own predictions and compare it to friends. With the compendium you also get a battle point bonus of +125% (so a total of 225% when activated) and the smeevil courier that will evolve as the tournament progresses. In addition to all that, for every compendium bought $2.50 goes directly into the prize pool for the international. The total prize pool started at $1 600 000 and is currently at $1 893 827 which is amazing. (if we raise +- $50 000 more we will have the highest prize pool of any esports tournament ever)

Again, you do not have to buy the compendium to watch any of the International matches including the qualifiers but I would highly recommend is as it is arguably the best value for money item in the entire game.

You don't have to buy anything to watch the games guys. The compendium is just for people to add to their profiles so they can get the international courier and make predictions etc. Like SuperBru. (Also buying a compendium contributes 2.5$ to the total prize pool for the main international event)
