I think it very much depends on the girl gamer, I know some girls who really dig shooters, while others hate the violence. My girlfriend enjoys StarCraft, World of Warcraft, Max Payne, Heavy Rain and The Sims 3. Why don't they do a massive survey for girl gamers.
Perhaps it's a case that girls just dont know what they want :P /runs and hides
UPDATE: I asked my girlfriend what she enjoys about games and what makes them appealing and what she dislikes. Her answer was basically she does not like games that have the same repetitive action over and over, enjoys games that have a sense of adventure and must have choices that impact the gameplay or story and some clever puzzles.
